TDK-Lambda has today introduced the R series of high performance EMC line filters with convenient connection options. The extensive range of low profile, single-phase (RS series) and three-phase (RT series) filters enable designers to combat potentially noisy disturbances in end-system applications, such as those found in medical, industrial, test & measurement and comms equipment.

“EMC line filters are sometimes required for EMC compliance of OEM equipment, even if the power supply itself is compliant to EMC norms. Within the R series, a choice of single-stage or two-stage filters is available to provide standard or very high noise attenuation levels, from 150kHz up to 30MHz. In addition, high pulse attenuation is available on some models to prevent line spikes from entering or leaving the OEM equipment,” adds comments Martin Southam, Director of Marketing, TDK-Lambda EMEA.

A typical example would be when the application provides additional disturbances (motor or drive converter), which are high and/or in a different frequency range to the filter inside the power supply. Alternatively, when more than one power supply is used within a system the conducted noise of each unit may be superimposed, which can cause system failure in EMC tests. There’s also the ‘antenna’ effect, when long cabling looms are involved, which can created radiated noise disturbances externally and within the system.

The current ratings for the single-phase RS units range from 0.5A up to 300A, with line voltages up to 250Vac or 250Vdc and leakage currents of 1mA. Low leakage models are available with 10µA of leakage current at 250Vac, 60Hz. The three-phase RT series filters offer current ratings from 6A up to 1000A, with line voltages up to 500Vac or 500Vdc. The maximum leakage current is 2.5mA at 250Vac, 60Hz or 5mA at 500Vac, 60Hz.

For ease of installation, many of the models can be specified with wire leads, lug terminals or captive screw terminals. A choice of either standard chassis or DIN Rail mounting is also available on many filter models rated up to 30A (with screw terminals).

Single-phase RS filters are safety certified to UL1283, CSA C22.2 No. 8, and EN60939 (up to 30A). Three-phase RT filters are safety certified to UL1283 (up to 150A) and EN60939 (up to 300A). The operating temperature range is from -25°C to +85°C. All units are RoHS compliant and come with TDK-Lambda's one-year warranty.
