C&K Components, a leading international supplier of tact switches, toggle and rocker switches, and smart card interconnect devices, has expanded its KMT Series of ultra-miniature tactile switches to include a double-action, double-tactile version. Featuring a low profile, the double-momentary action KMT 6 Series provides a lifespan of more than 150,000 electrical/mechanical cycles and is sealed to IP68 certifications, making it ideal for handheld and portable electronic devices.

The miniaturization trend of mobile and handheld devices continues to be driving factor in the development of innovative switches. To meet the increasing demand, C&K Components has developed a surface-mount, double-action switch that increases functionality while decreasing the footprint, said Jerome Smolinski, senior product manager for C&K Components. The ultra-miniature, double-action KMT 6 Series provides a nice tactile feel and is an ideal solution for applications requiring a small footprint and good tactile feedback on both actions. The additional IP68 rating makes it an excellent choice when protection against dust, sweat and water is needed.

The RoHS-compliant and halogen-free ultra-miniature KMT 6 switch features a footprint of only 3.8 mm x 3.1 mm with a height of 0.76mm (including the actuator). The normally-open switches are constructed with lead-free silver plating. First actuation force is set at 1.0N and the second actuation at 2.0N with a minimum difference of 0.6N between the two forces to ensure proper discrimination.

The double-action design provides extremely good and sharp tactile feedback on both actions. The KMT 6 Series device features a maximum power rating of 0.5VA and a minimum/maximum voltage of 20mV - 32Vdc with a minimum/maximum current rating of 1mA - 50mA. The operating temperature ranges from -40°C to +85°C.
