The FFLC Series of medium power film capacitors exhibit, AVX claim, higher specific energy than equivalent solutions (up to 240J/l). The expanded series of capacitors also feature AVX’s controlled self-healing technology, which enables safe, high reliability, long lifetime performance with no risk of explosion.

Available in large case sizes up to 35 liters, the FFLC Series capacitors suit DC filtering due to a low stray inductance option that enables high frequency ripple current. The capacitors are particularly well-suited for applications that require enhanced safety and reliability, including: rail applications, such as main or auxiliary inverters; new energy applications, such as wind turbines and solar PV inverters; and industrial applications, such as motor drives.

“The combination of large case sizes, high specific energy, and controlled self-healing technology makes the next-generation of our fully-dry FFLC Series medium power film capacitors especially suitable for power converters in traction, drive, and renewable energy applications,” said Gilles Terzulli, Worldwide Marketing Manager, Power Film Capacitors, AVX. “Compliant with a number of rail, environmental, and fire standards, FFLC capacitors are extremely safe and reliable and can be customized to satisfy specific design criteria upon request.”

Comprised of metallized, segmented polypropylene film encased in unpainted, rectangular, resin-filled aluminum cases, FFLC Series capacitors feature two mounting brackets and either four M8/15 female connections or four M12/30 male connections. Voltage ratings for the series span 800V to 1350V, capacitance values span 1750µF to 20,600µF, and parasitic inductance values span 32nH to 55nH. Exhibiting a ±10% tolerance, FFLC Series capacitors feature a maximum RMS current value of up to 400A and an average lifetime of 100,000 hours at rated DC voltage, 70°C hot-spot temperature, and a <2% change in capacitance value.

Lead time for the FFLC Series is in the range of 10-18 weeks and specific designs based on customer requests are available.
