Vishay Intertechnology has announced the release of the industry's first professional automotive thin film chip resistor in the 0603 case size to combine a high operating temperature to +175°C (1000 hours) and an advanced level of rated power.
While most thin film chip resistors offer power ratings to 100mW at +70°C ambient temperature, the power rating of the MCT 0603 AT is specified to 150mW at +85°C. The high power rating, resistance to humidity, and high-temperature performance of the new Vishay Beyschlag chip resistor meet the automotive requirements.

With an excellent moisture resistivity specified to ≤0.5% (+85°C; 85% RH; 1000h) and 1000V ESD capability, the device is optimized to provide high reliability in harsh environments. In addition to AEC-Q200 compliance, CECC approval ensures the MCT 0603 AT meets a set of demanding and sophisticated short-term and long-term performance requirements as defined by EN 140401-801. Compliance with these requirements is verified through periodic audits by an external and independent Testing and Certification Institute.

The resistor delivers stable performance for automotive electronics, including engine control units, gearbox controls, body electronics, and safety, power supply, and braking systems. Other industry segments benefit from the device’s performance as well, including industrial electronics with applications such as energy management, measurement, sensors, scales, and precision amplifiers; telecommunication base stations; and medical equipment.

Featuring an absolute TCR down to ±25ppm/K with a ±0.5% tolerance, the MCT 0603 AT resistor offers resistance values from 100Ω to 100kΩ and a 75V operating voltage. The device’s small 0.85mm by 1.55mm package with low 0.45mm profile enables the design of high-density circuits. Suitable for processing on automatic SMD assembly systems, the new resistor is RoHS-compliant and compatible with lead (Pb)-free and tin/lead (Sn/Pb) reflow and vapor-phase soldering processes.

The MCT 0603 AT also complies with the GADSL and the CEFIC-EECA-EICTA list of legal restrictions on hazardous substances. This includes full compliance with 2000/53/EC End of Vehicle Life (ELV), 2000/53/EC Annex II to End of Vehicle Life (ELV II) directives, 2002/95/EC Restriction of the use of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), and 2002/96/EC Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE).

Samples and production quantities of the new MCT 0603 AT resistor are available now, with lead times of five to six weeks for larger orders. The MC AT series will be extended to 0805 and 1206 case sizes, and Vishay will introduce a precision version of this series.
