1,200V SiC Schottky diodes offer low switching losses

1,200V SiC Schottky diodes offer low switching losses
The first GEN2 Series of 1,200V Silicon Carbide (SiC) Schottky diodes has been introduced by Littelfuse, in conjunction with the start of the PCIM Europe 2017 Exhibition. These SiC diodes are the first in a series of products based on the technology platform created through a partnership with Monolith Semiconductor. Additional silicon carbide products based on the technology platform, including 1,200V SiC MOSFETs, are already in the pipeline and are scheduled for introduction in the near future.

Resistors focus on high-energy applications

Resistors focus on high-energy applications
RS Components has undertaken a rapid portfolio expansion of Ohmite brand high-quality resistors to build on the two companies global distribution agreement. The agreement also covers the ARCOL brand, which RS has been distributing for more than three decades prior to and since its acquisition by Ohmite Manufacturing in 2015.

Can you vandalise an anti-vandal switch?

Can you vandalise an anti-vandal switch?
Writing blogs, especially on technical subjects, is a strange way to make a living. What is even stranger is when blogs start to write themselves. When I started researching and preparing for this blog, my intention was to discuss a new range of vandal resistant switches. With my interest in applications, materials and performance, I was fascinated to understand exactly what 'vandal resistance' actually means in the world of switches.

Compact surface mount capacitors for low-profile power supplies

Compact surface mount capacitors for low-profile power supplies
A series of surface mount, Y1 safety certified ceramic capacitors for low-profile power supplies has been launched by Murata. The DK1 capacitors are useful for any AC/DC switching power supply where a low-profile is needed for use in compact AV equipment, LED illumination, or 1U rack mounted equipment. Safety certified capacitors are deployed at the input side of a power supply line in order to suppress noise that builds up primarily in commercial AC power lines.

RC filters minimise arcing and noise generation

RC filters minimise arcing and noise generation
The full series of Electrocube RC Networks Arc-Suppressing Resistor-Capacitor (RC) Circuits has been rolled out at New Yorker Electronics. Also known as resistors, resistor-capacitors or RC filters, Electrocube’s RC Networks are designed to prevent or substantially minimise the occurrence of arcing and noise generations in relay and switch contacts.

Current shunts enable accurate measurement of high currents

Current shunts enable accurate measurement of high currents
Manufacturer of power and precision resistors, Riedon, has expanded its portfolio of precision current shunts to provide what it claims to be one of the broadest range of current ratings available today. Responding to increases in the output levels from renewable energy sources, higher capacity batteries that require shorter charging times, and the widespread electrification of heavy industry, Riedon has designed its shunt resistors to enable accurate measurement and monitoring of high currents.

Metal foil on ceramic chip resistors reduce form factor

Metal foil on ceramic chip resistors reduce form factor
A range of metal foil chip resistors for current sensing duties in power electronics applications has been launched by TT Electronics, the MFC series. The resistors’ small size makes them a suitable choice for designers of highly compact power conversion circuits in industrial and medical applications. Providing a combination of high power density, tolerance of surge conditions and stability, the parts are useful for power supplies, DC/DC convertors, small motor drives, actuator drives and lighting drives with current sense requirements in the 1-10A range.
