RS Components has announced the addition of over 1100 new devices into its range from Microchip Technology, a leading provider of microcontroller and analogue semiconductors. The increased offer means RS now has the most up-to-date range of Microchip microcontrollers and development kits available to design engineers direct-from-stock in Europe.
The new introductions include Microchip’s PIC Microcontroller nanoWatt XLP family, offering new industry benchmarks for the lowest sleep current consumption. XLP technology provides design engineers with a rich and compatible low-power migration path that includes on-chip peripherals for USB and mTouch.

Features of the PIC MCUs with nanoWatt XLP technology include sleep currents down to 20nA, real-time clock currents down to 500nA and watchdog timer currents down to 400nA, making the range ideal for any battery-powered or power-constrained application. Microchip has integrated all three features into its 8-bit and 16-bit XLP series, providing more freedom for designers who need products to operate longer while using less battery power.

Supporting PIC MCUs with nanoWatt XLP technology are three new PIMS (Plug in Modules) that fit into Microchip’s existing 8-bit / 16-bit Explorer Boards. RS has also significantly increased its range of Microchip development kits and accessories available direct-from-stock to support design engineers in their development of PIC MCU based solutions.

Mitch Little, VP of Worldwide Sales & Applications at Microchip comments: “Microchip is delighted to see the investments being made by RS. With the new range of nanoWatt XLP PIC microcontrollers and an expanded development kit offer, the Microchip range available from RS gives design engineers the products they need from a market-leading distributor.”

Chris Page, General Manager for Electronics at RS states: “RS has worked closely with Microchip to bring the latest technologies into our offer and create the freshest Microchip range available. With the new range available at flexible quantities in production-format packaging, RS has all the devices design engineers require when using Microchip’s technology in development, prototyping and small volume production.”
