Phyworks, a leader in analog and mixed signal ICs for high performance communications has shipped its 20 millionth chip. Despite todays economy, the company achieved its production landmark by shipping 10 million chips during the last 12 months.
Phyworks’ CEO Stephen King said, “Operator commitment to providing consumers with more bandwidth and an enhanced range of bundled services has meant our markets have remained resilient during the global downturn. This has enabled us to continue accelerating production and shipments.”

“Continued demand from PON markets in Japan and the USA and those rapidly emerging in Australia, China, India and Korea, coupled with a migration to 10GEPON technology, will help maintain our growth and leadership in that sector. At the same time our equalizer products have gained real momentum in data center applications, which will provide us with significant new revenue opportunities going forward.”

Phyworks’ equalizers are now being deployed in 8G Fibre Channel blade servers, host bus adaptors, 10G Ethernet network interface cards, Fibre Channel over Ethernet applications as well as in active copper cables.

In such high data rate applications Phyworks’ mixed-signal CMOS technology has demonstrated the highest performance at the lowest power and in the smallest package size and has proven capable of handling various encoding protocols. The company’s next generation equalizer technology has just completed development.

With an estimated 40% share of global BPON, GePON and GPON markets, Phyworks is regarded as the world’s leading supplier of PON physical media devices: laser drivers and transimpedance amplifiers. Phyworks first reached profitability in 2008 after achieving 10 consecutive quarters of growth.
