Microchip has announced that all of its 6-pin PIC10F microcontroller family are now available in ultra-small 2 mm x 3 mm Dual Flat No-lead (DFN) packages for space-constrained applications. Three members of Microchip’s 8-pin Baseline PIC® microcontroller family are also available in a 2x3 DFN, providing additional I/O and functionality with the same footprint. The 2x3 DFN package requires 30 percent less board space than a SOT-23 package, at a reduced height.
The PIC10F family was introduced over two years ago as the world’s first 6-pin microcontroller, and has seen wide acceptance by both traditional and non-traditional microcontroller users, including many space- and cost-constrained applications where electronic intelligence was not previously used. The 6- and 8-pin PIC microcontrollers are also ideal for providing functions in a larger system such as LED control, power sequencing or battery authentication.

The devices are already supported by Microchip’s world-class development tools, including the free MPLAB® Integrated Development Environment (IDE) software and all of Microchip’s programmers. In addition, the PICkit™ 2 Starter Kit (DV164120) makes it easy for engineers to get started with Microchip’s low pin count microcontrollers.

In a RoHS-compliant 2x3 DFN package, the PIC10F and Baseline PIC microcontrollers are available now for general sampling.
