32-bit PIC32 MCUs feature core independent peripherals
Microchip announces the company’s lowest power and most cost-effective family of 32-bit PIC32 MCUs. The PIC32MM family is the first PIC32 to feature core independent peripherals, designed to offload the CPU for lower power and lower system design cost. The PIC32MM devices are supported by the Microchip MPLAB Code Configurator (MCC) to help simplify and accelerate designs.
COM Express starter kits based on Skylake processors
Two new COM Express starter kits for Type 6 modules based on the 6th generation of Intel Core processors previously codenamed “Skylake” have been released by Avnet Embedded. The MSC C6-SK-SLH-EV-KIT001 contains the complete environment for COM Express basic modules with high-end Skylake H processors, while the MSC C6-SK-SLU-EV-KIT001 allows operation of COM Express compact modules with Skylake U processors featuring 15W computing plat...
Early software development for next-gen ARMv8-M devices
The latest version of the powerful development toolchain IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM enables early software development for the ARMv8-M architecture has been presented by IAR Systems. Thanks to an integration of ARM Fast Models hardware simulation technology, developers get access to a virtual prototype of the new ARMv8-M architecture directly in IAR Embedded Workbench.
Free driver software extends STM32 design flexibility
STMicroelectronics has augmented its 32-bit MCU development ecosystem with the introduction of the STM32Cube Low-Layer Application Program Interface (LL API) software. LL APIs enable expert designers using the STM32 ARM Cortex-M MCU to work closer to the hardware, down to register-level code, to optimise performance and run-time efficiency.
H.265-capable set-top box SoC utiises MIPS CPUs
Imagination Technologies has revealed that an STB chipset provider, ALi Corporation, is shipping a MIPS-based, H.265-capable SoC for hybrid cable, satellite, terrestrial and IP STBs. MIPS CPUs are firmly established in the STB market, shipping inside many of the most widely adopted products.
SHARC processors enable superior sound quality
Expanding its growing series of single-chip multicore SHARC processors, Analog Devices has announced the ADSP-SC57x and ADSP-2157x processors. The devices advance the audio experience by enabling superior sound quality and more cost-effective and reliable audio systems. The platform meets automotive temperature ranges without the need for costly, bulky heat sinks or fans, which saves space in the end application.
MPSoCs offer dual application- & dual real-time processing
Expanding the company's Zynq UltraScale+ portfolio, Xilinx has announced streamlined dual-core MPSoCs offering cost and power optimised, dual application- and dual real-time processor combinations. The CG family members add scalability and a lower cost entry point into the Zynq UltraScale+ family, while addressing processing requirements across markets including IIoT, medical, wireless and aerospace & defence.
IAR Systems offers enhanced code speed optimisations in tools for MCUs
IAR Systems announces an updated version of its development tools IAR Embedded Workbench for Atmel 8-bit AVR microcontrollers. Included in the new version are enhanced code speed optimisations which make it possible for developers to gain better performance in low-power AVR-based applications. In addition, version 6.80 of IAR Embedded Workbench for AVR extends the static analysis functionality within the add-on tool C-STAT.
Debug engine search function enables rapid trace data analysis
With highly complex automotive microcontrollers ‒ such as Infineon’s AURIX family or the PowerArchitecture-based SPC58E series from STMicroelectronics ‒ very large amounts of trace data accrue in a very short period of time, especially when the data are recorded through a high bandwidth trace interface like Aurora.
