MSC now offers the MD-023 Extended Holdover Crystal Oscillator (EHXO) from Vectron International. The new MD-023, specifically designed for use in wireless base stations, enables cost savings of up to 50 percent compared with conventional, high-stability rubidium oscillators.
Frequency temperature stability of the MD-023 is 0.1 ppb over the temperature range of 0°C to +70°C and phase noise, depending on frequency offset, is -125 dBc/Hz at 100 Hz offset and -145 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset. This performance is realized by internal, digital correction algorithms. The device also achieves an excellent low aging of maximum 0.08 ppb/day.

The MD-023 ensures precision timing even when GPS is susceptible to urban canyon effects or intermittent jamming, where high traffic levels make network derived timing unavailable or where the external source of timing is otherwise compromised.

The MD-023 is capable of providing holdover precision of 6 µs for 24 hours over a 10°C temperature change. Compared with traditional high stability references, the MD-023 offers both a low phase noise output signal of 10.0 MHz and a 1 pps output at half the cost and with reduced power consumption. The device comes in a 3 x 3 x 1 (7.62 cm x 7.62 cm x 2.54 cm) package and communication with the outside world is achieved via a serial communications interface.
