A limiting amplifier module from Analog Devices is now availablke at Richardson RFPD with full design support capabilities. The HMC7891 operates from 2GHz to 18GHz, with a high gain of 47dB. The amplifier provides a saturated output power of +13dBm over the input power range of −30 dBm to +10 dBm, for a limiting dynamic range of 40dB.

The new amplifier can also be used as a frequency tripler due its high third harmonic output level at saturation.

An integrated voltage regulator provides proper bias voltage, drawing 300 mA from a single DC power supply of 8 V +/- 1 V.

The HMC7891 is packaged in a compact modular design with field replaceable SMA connectors.

The limiting amplifier module is suitable for telecom infrastructure, test instrumentation, electronic warfare, aerospace and radar applications.

One example is a radar warning receiver application, wherein the device’s constant output power would allow for more accurate frequency demodulation.

Additional key features of the HMC7891 include noise figure of 3.5dB, and an perational temperature range of -40°C to +85°C
