The first in a line of ceramic resonator VCOs, which saves precious board space while delivering exceptional phase noise performance, has been introduced by Z-Communications. The TRO1800A-LF covers an 1800MHz frequency within a tuning voltage range of 0.5 to 4.5VDC, while featuring a spectrally clean signal of -117dBc/Hz at 10kHz offset.

Compared to other CRO topologies, the device’s compact housing provides nearly a 70% reduction in the overall volume size. The VCO is designed to deliver 4±3dBm of output power into a 50Ω load, while operating from a 5VDC supply and typically drawing 25mA of current. Operating across a -40 to 85ºC temperature range, the TRO1800A-LF features a typical second harmonic suppression of -10dBc. The device, which is offered in the company’s standard 375 package, is available in tape and reel packaging.

The VCO is well suited for microwave radio and satellite terminal applications where space and noise performance is a premium.
