Semtech will take its next generation of high performance, low cost transmitter and quad receiver chip sets for HD surveillance applications to the Security China 2014 Conference in Shanghai (Oct 28-31). The new chipsets, the GV7700 and GV7704, are based on Semtech’s High-Definition Visually Lossless CODEC (HD-VLC) technology, providing unprecedented levels of cable reach performance and enabling long-distance transmission of high-quality HD digital video.

Semtech’s HD-VLC has been specifically developed to allow both 720p and 1080p high-definition video to be transmitted at lower data rates over conventional CCTV coaxial cable. Combined with Semtech’s industry-leading cable equalizer and CDR technology, cable distances can be more than doubled over existing HD-SDI and HDcctv 1.0 based infrastructures.

“At Semtech, we understand the inherent cost pressures of the surveillance market, and the need for our customers to differentiate their products on cable reach, reliability and image clarity,” said Gareth Heywood, Video Market Manager at Semtech. “The GV7700 and GV7704 represent the beginning of a comprehensive product roadmap that will fully enable the industry transition to all-digital, high performance video connectivity at HD resolutions and beyond.”

At the exhibition, Semtech will demonstrate pristine 1080p HD live video transmission over 400m of Belden 543945 CCTV cable at the HDcctv Alliance Gallery (booth E1Y39). The demonstration will use the company’s GV7700 HD-VLC transmitter camera reference design, and GV7704 quad HD-VLC receiver DVR reference design. The GV7700 is packaged in a space saving 7mm x 7mm QFN package and typically consumes only 240mW, ideal for compact bullet or dome camera designs. The GV7704 integrates four independent channels of world-class cable equalization and HD-VLC decoding, offering new-to-the-industry levels of performance and integration at lower cost points.
