GTK have today announced the introduction of a new series of Passive Matrix Vertical Alignment displays which provide the same look and performance as TFT displays, but with much lower costs and quicker time to market as a result of their simpler interface and programming. The PMVA is a custom segment and icon technology with a negative transmissive display and typically comes with a white LED backlight, with other colours available on request.

A key feature of PMVA technology is the very black contrast. Colour content can be added by silk screen printing for fixed colour content, or an LED array which offers more flexibility in terms of backlit colour combinations.

This technology offers a high contrast ratio, good all-round viewing angles, and can be operated in temperatures ranging from -100C to +800C. It has an operating life of 100K hours MTBF. Interface to the PCB can be achieved via flexible printed circuit or metal pins.

“PMVA technology offers customers a cost effective way to add colour to displays where graphic content is not required. It is a high performance solution and ideal for a wide range of applications including medical electronics, industrial controls, security products and automotive electronics,” commented Clive Dickinson, Business Manager for Optoelectronics at GTK.

Key features:

  • High contrast ratio
  • Wide operating temperature, -10°C - +80°C
  • All round viewing angle of 80°
