electronica 2014 was the launch pad for demmel products latest iLCD models with capacitive touch screens. The 5.0in, 5.7in, and 7in iLCDs are now available with projected capacitive touch technology making them robust for operation outdoors and where vandal-proof designs are necessary.

User interfaces in rugged environments such as outdoor vending machines, require special measures to ensure reliable operation.

Touch detection is carried out via capacitive distortion, meaning no physical pressure is necessary and installation behind glass of up to 4 mm thickness is possible. Such “cover glass” increases protection against damage and can lend itself to a decorative application design as well. As such, demmel products facilitates the integration of iLCDs in devices not only for harsh environments, but also when vandal-proof designs are necessary.

The iLCDs with PCAP touchscreens support multi-touch operation. Configuration parameters allow activation of up to five touch points. Finger movements detected on the screen are reported to the device’s interpreting application.

Optical bonding of the display components leading to an even better mechanical robustness and readability in sunlight is an option.

The capacitive touch displays are fully compatible with all iLCDs across the entire product line. The iLCDs with PCAP touch screens, like their resistive counterparts, feature the fast DPC3090 processor and 128 MByte of flash memory on board.

Setup, configuration and management of all PCAP functionality is easy with the iLCD Manager XE, demmel’s free Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Existing touch applications can be re-used without any modification when the standard single touch mode is activated.
