High resolutions for HMIs
The ability to add intuitive and responsive touch-sensitive panels to almost any appliance is creating new opportunities for OEMs at every stage in the supply chain. By Chee Ee Lee, Head of Engineering, Product Research Facility (Singapore), FTDI Chip
The problem with HMIs
The key to reaching technology Nirvana is to understand how devices work and why they sometimes fail. Here, Jonathan Wilkins, Marketing Manager of industrial automation parts supplier European Automation explains why HMIs sometimes fail to meet expectations.
TFT LCDs operate across a -30 to +85°C temperature range
The T-57152GD042H-LW-AAN and the T-55923GD050J-LW-ABN, small-format TFT LCD modules designed for use in harsh environments, have been introduced by Kyocera.
LEDs intensify lumen density
The first LEDs powered by Cree’s SC5 Technology Platform, XLamp XHP50 and XHP70 LEDs provide twice the lumen output and improved reliability compared to previous LEDs of the same size and are on sale at MSC Technologies. XHP50 and XHP70 LEDs shatter the industry’s perceived limit of LED lumen density by delivering up to 2546lm at 19W from a 5mm2 package and up to 4022lm at 32W from a 7mm2 package, respectively.
Graphic toolchain enables users to create advanced HMIs
Bringing more comprehensive support to its Embedded Video Engine (EVE) product offering, FTDI Chip's EVE Screen Designer is available to download for free. Suitable for use with Windows 7 and above, the development suite enables the creation of advanced HMIs, via EVE’s innovative object-oriented approach, without any understanding of EVE display lists.
STB tuner ICs reduce complexity & power consumption
Silicon Labs has introduced a family of high-performance digital STB tuner ICs designed to reduce the cost, complexity and power consumption of cable, terrestrial, hybrid terrestrial/satellite and IP-based STB products. The Si2144 and Si2124 digital tuner ICs help STB designers reduce board space and BOM cost through a combination of single-chip integration and small package size.
Gloves are no hindrance to multi-touch display
Display Solutions has extended its DisplayTouch line with the introduction of a 42-inch multi-touch display. Allowing up to 10 touch points at one time, these displays integrate innovative Planar Scatter Detection (PSD) technology that works with gloved hands. Ideal for indoor and outdoor applications, within the correct enclosure, the DT-S42FD is suitable for gaming, information, retail and educational applications requiring up to 10 point touch...
Display screen protects eyes & neck
The latest generation of displays from AOC offers a huge number of useful features: they protect the eyes as well as the back and neck from damage, plus they offer a completely new visual experience. Furthermore, the latest generation of displays also helps enhance both productivity and comfort.
A complete embedded UI costs less than £100
Integrating the latest 600MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor from Texas Instruments, andersDX has created an entry-level DX series embedded display platform priced at under £100. The DX1a features a pre-integrated TFT touch screen and a pre-loaded Linux, Android or Windows CE OS. With the addition of the application software, it becomes a fully working prototype system.
TFT LCD displays feature XGA
Ginsbury has introduced two new high-brightness Kyocera TFT LCD displays. The 10.4-inch TCG104XGLP and 12.1-inch TCG121XGLP both feature XGA (1024 x 768 pixels) resolution and Kyocera's Advanced Wide View (AWV) technology which enables display images to be easily seen from 85-degree viewing angles in all directions (left, right, up and down).
