Controllers enable touchscreens for wearable market
Controllers that enable 1.2 to 10.1” touchscreens to deliver high touch performance with a low power consumption have been introduced by Atmel. The devices, which expand the company’s maXTouch U series, leverage its proprietary picoPower technology.
Full-colour AMOLED display is glass-free & flexible
FlexEnable has partnered with Chunghwa Picture Tube to drive the penetration of truly flexible AMOLED displays, a market predicted to explode to $16bn by 2020, according to the IDTechEX July 2014 report, The rise of plastic and flexible OLED displays.
LCD TVs achieve 110% of full-gamut NTSC colour performance
TCL has expanded its Color IQ-based product family with the introduction of its Q65H9700 65’’, 4K, UHD Quantum Dot TV. This is the second Color IQ-based TV launched by TCL, following the successful launch of its 55” H9700 model last December. Both products feature colour performance enabled by QD Vision’s Color IQ optics.
Glass-free organic LCDs are now cost effective
FlexEnable is announcing a technology breakthrough for the manufacture of full colour, Organic LCD (OLCD), making the manufacture of glass-free LCDs both practical and cost-effective for the first time.
TFT LCDs display clear colours in bright weather
Kyocera has introduced two next-gen TFT LCDs which display bright colours clearly, even in intense sunlight. Suitable for industrial applications including medical, aerospace, aquatics, T&M and Industry 4.0 equipment, the 10.4" XGA (TCG104XGLP) and 12.1" XGA (TCG121XGLP) TFT LCD modules feature 1024x768px resolution and high-efficiency, long-life LED backlights offering 1300 and 1200 cd/m², respectively.
Displays help trim NRE costs
The Ampire standard range of displays with Cover Lens and Projected Capacitive Touchscreen are available from Avnet Embedded. Sizes consist of 4.3in, 5in, 7in and 10.1in. Cover lens thickness reaches up to 4mm with blacks. Screen printing of customer’s logos is also possible.
Flexible LCD features transmissive & touch display
Varitronix has announced the availability of its recent range of Ultra-Flexible LCD. The displays accept a curve with a radius as tight as 12.5cm, and currently can be manufactured in small sizes, similar to that of a credit card. The flexibility is due to the innovative manufacturing process that Varitronix uses. The thickness is just 0.56mm, making the displays very light.
TFT display modules make play for gaming applications
Leisure and entertainment applications including pay per play casino gaming machines are being targeted by Avnet Embedded and Koe with a range of high performance, wide aspect ratio TFT display modules. Three displays are available: 6.2in. with 640 x 240 pixels, 10.2in. with 800 x 256 pixels.
Are quantum dots finally ready for the prime time?
According to Yole Développement, Quantum Dots are finally ready for prime time and will exceed traditional phosphor revenue by 2020 by allowing LCD to compete with OLED in the race for the next-gen displays.
