Validated Software (VSC) and Micrium have announced the availability of VSC's validation suites for Micrium's uC/OS-III. Validation suites offer the most cost-effective means to secure the benefits of uC/OS-III in a variety of safety-critical products.

VSC's validation suites contain a complete set of agency-compliant software development life-cycle evidence; are hardware-tested; and are delivered submission-ready. validation suites are delivered as an integrated, stand-alone hybrid package that blends the time, budget and risk-reducing benefits of an ‘off the shelf’ solution with the convenience of a dedicated processor certification solution.

VSC offers a full line of uC/OS-II and uC/OS-III validation suites for products that must be certified for DO-178C and ED-109A Level A , IEC 62304 Class C, and FDA/CDRH 510K/PMA Class III, IEC 61508 SIL III and CENELEC EN-50128 SIL IV.

uC/OS-III is a highly portable, ROMable, scalable, pre-emptive, real-time, deterministic, multitasking kernel for microprocessors, MCUs and DSPs. Offering unprecedented ease of use, uC/OS-III is delivered with complete 100% ANSI C source code and in-depth documentation. uC/OS-III runs on the largest number of processor architectures, with ports available for download. Using VSC's validation suites, designers specify the processor, the compiler and the assurance/safety integration level, and in 60 days or less will receive a hardware-tested validation suite with everything required to render uC/OS-III certified in an end device.

"There is a growing trend in the industry for electronic devices to be safety-certified, or, at the very least, to perform with that level of reliability," said Scott Nowell, President, VSC. "Historically, cost and time have been roadblocks to pursuing certification, but our validation suites facilitate the process, offering the easiest and in most cases, the least expensive way to demonstrate compliance."

"uC/OS-III expands on the functionality of uC/OS-II, which has a long track record of certification for safety-critical products," commented Jean Labrosse, President and CEO, Micrium. "The availability of VSC's validations suites for uC/OS-III is a tremendous endorsement of the kernel's quality, reliability and, ultimately, suitability for deeply embedded and safety-critical devices."
