A tool suite and RTOS developed by Green Hills Software now support the ARM Cortex-M7 processor. The Green Hills Probe and SuperTrace Probe, the MULTI IDE, the μ-velOSity RTOS and the ARM C/C++ compilers deliver both the fastest and smallest code in the industry, according to the company.

Green Hills Software’s solution is particularly suitable for the Cortex-M7 processor’s safety features, including ECC, memory protection, lock-step operation, data trace and safety documentation for supporting medical.

Software running reliability-critical systems are often built using Green Hills Software’s tools. These systems include aircraft engines, automotive drivetrains, medical devices, industrial controllers and telecommunications equipment from companies such as Ford, Boeing and Hewlett Packard.

The Cortex-M7 core ARM's processor delivers a high level of performance, while the ARMv7-M architecture is responsive and enables ease of use. Enabling a variety of MCUs and embedded SoCs, the processor is suitable for automotive, industrial automation, medical devices, high-end audio, image and voice processing, sensor fusion and advanced motor control. The ARM Cortex-M7 processor can also be used in the deployment of the IoT.

“Green Hills Software’s software development tools for the ARM architecture provide a comprehensive breadth of solutions for embedded developers,” said Hobson Bullman, General Manager, Development Solutions, ARM. “Its software tool chain for the Cortex-M7 processor will assist in the creation of products across a wide range of consumer and industrial applications. This will include sectors such as automotive, industrial control, sensor fusion, smart energy, home appliances, factory automation, and portable medical systems.”

“ARM’s power-efficient Cortex-M7 processors, including its new safety features, represent the next-gen microcontroller/DSP platform for IoT low-power applications, scaling from consumer sensor applications to ultra-reliability medical and industrial control devices,” said Dan Mender, Vice President, Business Development, Green Hills Software.
