Ensuring maximum network availability, Belden has announced free software which offers various security mechanisms, comprehensive management and diagnostic methods, precise time synchronisation and redundancy protocols. For the first time, Hirschmann Operating System (HiOS) 4.0 provides routing functionality for the Hirschmann switches in the RSP, RSPE and MSP families.

Compatible with alternative routing products from Hirschmann and other manufacturers, HiOS 4.0 provides static routing functionality for RSP switches and dynamic routing functionality for MSP switches. This ensures that Layer 3 technology is available throughout the network. Adding dynamic routing functionality to the relevant MSP hardware versions, the software guarantees system continuity across product generations. It equips the RSP switch with the Layer 3 functionality required to create a routing product with compact housing for the production area.

HiOS 4.0 is designed specifically for the automation sector, while the Hirschmann switches suit applications requiring maximum network availability, such as automotive production and transportation. The software also provides manufacturing message specification for the energy sector where IEC61850 servers can be used to forward diagnostic information directly to control systems.

“Hirschmann has long been known for its operating system’s unique redundancy and security features that enable it to provide maximum network availability and data security for efficient production processes. With HiOS 4.0, users have access to the widest range of standard functions and special features for the automation sector by far,” comments Mark Cooksley, Product Manager, Belden.
