The PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturer Group PICMG has made available on its website the new, freely available Design Guide for COM Express. MSC Vertriebs GmbH also played an active role in the creation of the currently available version 1.0. The document contains extensive information for designing custom System Carrier Boards for COM Express modules from different manufacturers.
The COM Express Design Guide includes reference schematics for the external circuitry required to implement the various COM Express peripheral functions. Furthermore, the specification contains directions on how to extend the supported bus interfaces and how to add additional expansion slots to the COM Express-based system. The Design Guide complements the existing PICMG COM Express specification.

Peter Eckelmann, Director Application Support, Embedded Computer Technology, MSC Vertriebs GmbH, stated: “Using the PICMG COM Express specification together with the COM Express module data sheet simplifies the design of an application-specific carrier board to which all COM Express modules are compatible. For system designers interested in using the COM Express standard these design guidelines significantly shorten design times as well as ensuring a long-term, manufacturer independent supply as a result of the second source possibilities.“

Since its definition by the PICMG consortium in 2004, COM Express has firmly established itself as the standard for powerful computer-on-modules in the embedded world. As a leading company in this segment, MSC Vertriebs GmbH offers a broad product portfolio of scalable COM Express modules, which vary in terms of computing power, graphics performance and range of interfaces. MSC Vertriebs GmbH is continuously represented in various PICMG subcommittees and so is committed to incorporate the latest PC technologies into the standard.

The PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG) is a global consortium of more than 400 suppliers and users of PCI-based industrial computing products. Its goal is the definition of a common specification for high-performance boards and systems for use in industrial automation, medical technology and telecommunications.
