KiCad software bolsters distributor's EDA options
KiCad open source EDA software has been added to Digi-Key’s list of EDA model output formats for schematic symbols and PCB footprints covering one million in-stock Digi-Key parts. “One added value we provide our customers is the ability to download EDA and CAD models for many of the parts we sell,” said Jeremy Purcell, Program Manager - Digital Design Tools, Design Support at Digi-Key.
“We’ve recently seen an increase in the number of requests for KiCad model support, so we worked with our model partner to add KiCad support to Ultra Librarian,” he added.
Digi-Key’s interface to Ultra Librarian offers an easy download of library components in 24 CAD formats supporting most EDA and CAD toolsets now including KiCad. Customers can verify the Digi-Key and manufacturer’s part number, preview the graphics for the models, choose the output formats, and download up to 15 parts per month.
“Having fully-qualified symbols, footprints, and 3D models through Digi-Key and Ultra Librarian will be a tremendous resource for our KiCad user base,” said Wayne Stambaugh, KiCad Project Leader. “As an open source project, we welcome all support for our community.”
