IAR Systems today announced the integration of IAR Embedded Workbench and Freescale Semiconductor MQX Software Solutions to assist with software development on Freescale's ARM Cortex-M4 based Kinetis microcontroller family. Combining an extensive software solution with powerful and easy-to-use development tools will significantly reduce the time to develop advanced software. New features include an operating system, USB and TCP/IP communication capabilities, and a file system.
IAR Embedded Workbench was the first development tool available for the Kinetis microcontroller family when it launched earlier this year. With the integration of Freescale MQX Software Solutions, IAR Systems has strengthened the software development solution provided for Kinetis microcontrollers. The integrated software components will be used internally by Freescale to develop support applications, and by Kinetis microcontrollers early lead customers for application development.

Commenting on the collaboration, Fredrik Medin, Marketing Director, IAR Systems says, Freescale MQX Software Solutions and IAR Embedded Workbench complement each other extremely well and suit the development of a broad range of consumer and industrial applications. To be successful in these markets designs need to be introduced as quickly as possible and the combination of our products greatly aids that process.

IAR Systems has earned a reputation for exceeding the expectations of developers by providing powerful software development tools, said Jeff Bock, Direct of Marketing for Freescale's Industrial and Multi-Market segment. IAR Systems development tools are a vital part of our ecosystem for the Kinetis family. Integrating Freescale MQX Software Solutions with IAR Embedded Workbench enables users to get exceptional results for our Kinetis family.

The integration between IAR Embedded Workbench and Freescale MQX Software Solutions includes a port of the source code to make it available for direct inclusion in an IAR Embedded Workbench project. RTOS awareness has also been added to the environment, providing vital information during a debug session about not only the operating systems internals but also the communication stacks. To make it easy to use and quick to get started with a number of example projects are included. Information about the software components and the example projects can be reached directly through IAR Information Center in IAR Embedded Workbench.
