Novatek has adopted Synopsys' industry first Verification IP (VIP) and source code Test Suite for HDMI 2.1 and HDCP 2.2. As the demand for higher resolution and display quality increases, Synopsys HDMI 2.1 with HDCP 2.2 Verification IP and Test Suite enables Novatek to design next-generation multimedia chips with ease of use and increased productivity, for accelerated verification closure.

Synopsys VIP for HDMI supports callbacks for creating real-time audio/video streaming examples, and custom video timing formats for faster simulation times. The HDMI 2.1 standard plans to add additional support for multiple lanes and enables higher bandwidth of up to 48Gbps for 8k resolutions.

It also plans to deliver higher refresh rates and dynamic HDR, whereas earlier versions supported only static HDR.

Built-in HDCP 2.2 content protection is included, a security requirement for protecting transfer of UHD 4K/8K content that creates a secured connection between source and display.

Synopsys VIP is natively integrated with the Verdi Protocol Analyser debug solution and features advanced debug ports for data island, audio and video timing, authentication and encryption for easy and fast debug.

Built-in coverage and verification plans are also included to speed up verification coverage closure.

"We continue to collaborate extensively with standards organisations and actively participate in the development of new protocol specifications," said Vikas Gautam, group director of VIP R&D and corporate applications for the Synopsys Verification Group. "Delivering innovative products, such as the industry's first HDMI 2.1 with HDCP 2.2 VIP, expands our leadership in the display domain."

"Our latest TV SoC HDMI 2.1 solution leads the industry in performance and advanced display capabilities," said Daniel Liu, Manager of System Platform at Novatek. "Synopsys' industry-first HDMI 2.1 VIP enable us to design the next-generation of digital devices with increased efficiency and performance."
