Fourth generation development tools from XMOS put C programmers in control of pins

XMOS has announced the latest version of its integrated development environment (IDE) allowing programmers to directly program IO and watch the source code control the pins. James Foster, President and CEO, XMOS, commented: “XMOS event-driven processors are so predictable that they enable C programmers to implement hardware interfaces.
The integrated waveform viewer lets the programmer see changes at a pin and link them to the C code. It is easy to program and then simulate IO hardware, control software and DSP functions from the same eclipse C tools used to code programs.”

Foster continued: “We have over 400 customers and are adding 50 new customers a month so bringing new users up-to speed quickly is a priority. This new release of our development environment, which is available free of charge, makes it easier to get started with XMOS technology.”

A major new feature of the latest XMOS IDE is a unique waveform viewer which provides hardware designers with a simple way to relate signal waveforms to C code. A series of new interactive hands-on tutorials for getting started designing with the XC-1 and XC-2 development boards is also included.
