Design kit delivers fast implementation of Gigabit Ethernet
Designed to deliver easy and fast implementation of Gigabit Ethernet in a broad range of products, a design kit has been announced by Lantiq and Würth Elektronik eiSos. Jointly developed by Lantiq and Würth, the Evaluation Kit paves the way to easily add high-speed network connectivity to an application or device.
The kit provides all necessary information to understand the demands of an Ethernet hardware design, along with an easy to use 1 Gbps Ethernet demonstration board.With the new kit customers can smoothly add Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to support new applications in products such as stoves, coffee machines, telephones, dishwashers, etc. By implementing Ethernet, manufacturers get both Internet functionality and a high-speed standardized connection to plug-in service and maintenance devices.
The kit relies on Lantiq’s field-proven Gigabit Ethernet technology with best in class energy efficiency, highest integration and smallest form factor. The overall solution, with leading Ethernet and passive components from Würth Elektronik eiSos, proves that Internet/Ethernet connectivity can be realized with less than US $3 additional bill-of-material in high quantities.
The USB-powered demo board is about the size of a credit card (54 mm x 92 mm). Customers can easily connect the board to PCs and instantly achieve data rates of up to 1Gbps bi-directional. Using the Lantiq XWAY PHY11G in a very small VQFN-48 package (7mm x 7 mm), the board saves energy due to compliance with IEEE’s energy efficient Ethernet standard.
