Virtualisation extended to the edge of the network
The industry’s first ARM Cortex-based system solution will extend virtualisation beyond the data centre, throughout the network and all the way to end user premises equipment and appliances with a single compatible software/silicon platform. Introduced by NXP Semiconductors N.V., the NXP QorIQ NFV platform signals a new era of network efficiency, security and service agility.
Improved interfaces help machines and humans work together
As machines become more intelligent, they become embedded in countless facets of life. In some ways, they can act almost as full-fledged members in human-machine teams. In such cases, as with any team, trust is a necessary ingredient for good performance. But the dynamics of trust between people and machines are not yet well-understood.
Multi-core processors for software ecosystems
Marvell, a provider of storage, cloud infrastructure, Internet of Things (IoT), connectivity and multimedia semiconductor solutions, has announced that it has collaborated with ARM to introduce Marvell’s cost-effective and high-performance ARMADA 8040 networking community board, a widely available software development platform.
Advanced debug technology with drag & drop programming
A new version of the J-Link firmware for NXP's evaluation boards with OpenSDA debug and programming interface from SEGGER. OpenSDA is used on the popular Tower and Freedom evaluation boards equipped with Kinetis microcontroller devices.
IAR extends debugging & trace offering for ARM developers
IAR Systems announces the availability of a new version of the complete toolchain IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM with major feature extensions. With the new trace probe I-jet Trace for ARM Cortex-A/R/M, the toolchain gives developers working with devices in the ARM Cortex-A, Cortex-R or Cortex-M families new possibilities for unmatched insight into application behavior and easier detection of hard-to-find bugs.
Chip design makes parallel programs run faster
In the May/June issue of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' journal Micro, researchers from MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) will present a chip design they call Swarm, which should make parallel programs not only much more efficient but easier to write, too. In simulations, the researchers compared Swarm versions of six common algorithms with the best existing parallel versions, which had ...
Study on molecular doping yields better semiconductor designs
An understanding of why tungsten-doped thin films degrade so rapidly in air may lead to better designs for semiconductor technologies. A combination of experiments and theory have helped researchers at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) to improve the understanding of fundamental physics questions about molecular doping—these will underpin the development of organic solar cells and field effect transistors.
Imagination’s PowerVR GPU provides graphics in Sunplus’ automotive SoC
Imagination Technologies (IMG.L) has announced that Sunplus Technology’s latest audio/video processor for automotive applications features advanced graphics enabled by a PowerVR GPU from Imagination. Taiwan-based Sunplus is a leading provider of multimedia IC solutions for the home and automotive markets. Its SPHE6700 ADAS SoC is targeted at advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and around view monitor (AVM) systems.
Synopsys announces latest RSoft Photonic System Design Suite release
Synopsys has announced the latest release of its RSoft Photonic System Design Suite, the company's software for the design of optical communication systems and Photonic ICs (PICs) at the signal propagation level. Version 2016.06 introduces a new interface to PhoeniX Software's OptoDesigner chip and mask layout tool to streamline design and fabrication processes for PICs.
Qt Company releases version 5.7 of its development framework
