Semrock, Inc. now offers ultra-high performance cavity ring down mirrors produced by ATFilms. The high-reflectivity mirrors are manufactured with the most current ion beam sputtering technology for use in demanding laser applications. Mirrors have reflectivities ranging from > 99.97% to > 99.999% depending on wavelength and can be used for cavities with finesses of more than 300,000 (wavelength dependent). ATFilms is known for their market-leading substrate polishing capabilities which when combined with the hard coated film allow for mirrors with very low absorption scatter losses (as low as 1ppm) and high laser damage threshold levels.
MyLight, Semrock's new online filter modeling tool, provides users with the ability to characterize optical filters under varying theoretical conditions in real time. Interested in seeing how a Semrock catalog filter behaves under a particular angle of incidence, polarization or cone half angle? MyLight can provide you with the theoretical answers by simply entering your parameters and selecting "Generate Plot." MyLight data can also be saved, re-drawn and printed.
Semrock has expanded the lineup of its VersaChrome® tunable bandpass filter family to seven filters. The new TBP01-380/16-25x36 VersaChrome filter offers wavelength tunability over the near UV wavelengths by adjusting the angle of incidence with essentially no change in spectral performance. This new filter, along with the just added TBP01-800/12-25x36, expands VersaChrome coverage outside the visible spectrum to include near-IR and near-UV wavelengths.
Semrock, Inc, the leader in hard-coated optical filters, has launched a new version of their website, www.semrock.com, to allow online shopping, along with easier filter and set selection with an improved customer service section.
IDEX Corporation today announced that it has entered into an definitive agreement to purchase Advanced Thin Films, LLC (ATFilms). ATFilms, with approximately $9 million in revenue, specializes in optical components and coatings for applications in the fields of scientific research, defense, aerospace, telecommunications and electronics manufacturing. ATFilms' core competence is in the design and manufacture of filters, splitters, reflectors and mirrors with the precise physical properties required to support their customers' most challenging and cutting-edge optical applications.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has confirmed the validity of four key Semrock patents that were subject to a series of reexamination requests. This rigorous review bolsters the intellectual property of Semrock, Inc., and reconfirms Semrock's patent rights to classes of edge filters, laser-line filters, notch filters, and broadband mirrors.
New to Semrock's VersaChrome widely tunable thin-film optical filter line-up is the TBP01-800/12, pushing tunable imaging into near-IR territory with a wavelength tuning range of over 100 nm. Unique in the marketplace, VersaChrome filters offer wavelength tunability over a very wide range of wavelengths (> 12% of the normal incidence wavelength) by adjusting the angle of incidence with essentially no change in spectral performance.
Semrock has substantially improved the performance of twenty-seven of its most popular BrightLine fluorescence filter sets by launching enhanced versions of the dichroic beamsplitters used in these sets. Filter sets were rolled out for use with DAPI, GFP, FITC, mCherry, Texas Red, and many other fluorophores as well as sets optimized for FRET, FISH, and Qdots.
Semrock has just released four new BrightLine long-pass fluorescence filter sets to enhance its full line of established high-performance bandpass filter sets. With these long-pass sets more fluorescence signal can be captured for low fluorophore concentration applications and when signal-to-noise ratio is not as critical. They are also well suited for viewing fluorophores with very wide emission spectra or with a large wavelength shift between the excitation and emission wavelengths.
Semrock has appointed Brian O'Flaherty, PhD in the capacity of Sales Engineer for the Northeast region effective August 1.
The second in the Semrock opto-mechanical mount line, the FH1 filter holder is designed to secure dichroic beamsplitters without affecting flatness while allowing for angle tuning or other motorized options. Originally designed for use with the VersaChrome tunable filters, these parts lend themselves to a multitude of bench-top laboratory uses.
Semrock announces the first complete quad-band fluorescence filter set for simultaneous four-color imaging by eye or with a color camera using broadband illumination. The new DA/FI/TR/Cy5-A quad-band set is comprised of three high-performance, hard-coated optical filters: excitation and emission filters each with four high-transmission passbands and excellent out-of-band blocking and a perfectly matching beamsplitter with four precision edges.
Semrock announces Semrock Penta-Sedat Setthe release of its new Penta-Sedat multiband fluorescence filter set, DA/FI/TR/Cy5/Cy7-5X5M. The eleven-filter set enables imaging of five distinct fluorophores simultaneously for the most complex imaging schemes. With the creation of the unique penta-beamsplitter, FF408/504/581/667/762-Di01, and an improved Cy7 emitter, FF02-809/81, the set allows for high-speed imaging into the near-infrared for in vivo and tissue applications, with up to four visible labels in addition. When used in higher-performance microscopes equipped with filter wheels, the quicker analysis time can bring down the overall cost of research and reduces diagnosis time.
Semrock has broken new ground with the release of the new VersaChrome tunable bandpass filter family. VersaChrome filters offer wavelength tunability over a very wide range of wavelengths by adjusting the angle of incidence with essentially no change in spectral performance. With a tuning range of greater than 12% of the normal-incidence wavelength only five filters are needed to cover the full visible spectrum.
Semrock announced the release of its new 84-page, full-color 2010 Master catalog of optical filters and related products. This comprehensive catalog contains 28 Technical and Product Notes, new White Paper Abstracts along with a brand-new product family and 50 new filters products optimized for fluorescence, Raman spectroscopy and other laser analytical instrumentation applications.
A collaboration between Cobolt AB and Semrock, Inc., has resulted in the development of optical filters optimized for use with the Cobolt Mambo™ 594 nm orange laser in fluorescence instrumentation.
Nine years after founding and then successfully leading Semrock Inc. through tremendous growth and its sale to IDEX Corporation in October 2008, Dr. Victor Mizrahi announced he is stepping down as the company's President this fall. IDEX and Dr. Mizrahi are very pleased to welcome Dr. Michael J. Cumbo as Semrock's new General Manager, effective September 14, 2009. Dr. Cumbo brings nearly 30 years of experience in lasers and electro-optics at publicly traded photonics companies such as OCLI, JDS Uniphase, and Coherent, and venture capital funded startups BinOptics, Raydiance and NanoGram Solar.

Semrock, Inc has announced a family of filter products made with advanced Ion Beam Sputtering. The new RazorEdge Dichroic beamsplitters, which reflect a standard laser wavelength incident at 45 degrees while efficiently passing a broad band of the longer Raman-shifted wavelengths, boast an ultrasteep transition from reflection to transmission far superior to anything else on the open market. The guaranteed transition from laser line to passband in <1% of the laser wavelength (regardless of polarization) makes these new filters a perfect match to Semrock's patented and popular normal-incidence RazorEdge ultrasteep long-wave-pass filters.
Semrock has introduced a family of high performance filters specifically designed for use with popular laser diodes. The MaxDiode filters are guaranteed to have a 90% transmission over a defined range of each diode's possible laser wavelengths, while reducing unwanted out of band spectral noise. The MaxDiode filters are ideal for both OEM manufacturers of laser-based fluorescence instrumentation, and laboratory researchers who use diode lasers for fluorescence excitation and other types of spectroscopic applications.
