Future World Symposium debates the domino effects of open source

The National Microelectronics Institute (NMI) has announced that a panel debate on open source models will take place at the Future World Symposium. Entitled 'the disruptive effect of open source' the session has been created to bring a fresh perspective on the far reaching consequences for traditional commercial models. It will examine the benefits and tradeoffs that open source brings and address how companies can simultaneously scale innovation and deliver profits using the approach.

NMI's CEO receives doctorate at University of Glasgow

The University of Glasgow has today awarded an honorary doctorate to Derek Boyd, CEO of the UK semiconductor industry's trade body, the NMI (National Microelectronics Institute). The accolade, a D. Univ (doctor of the university) was received at the university's faculty of engineering graduation ceremony and was presented by the Principal, Professor Anton Muscatelli.

National survey shows strength of UK semiconductor design

The results of its very first national survey of UK semiconductor design have been published by the National Microelectronics Institute. Entitled 'Designed in the UK', the Institute's 55-page report reveals the scale and composition of the sector, its industry and application focus and the key challenges faced. The report concludes that the UK's strength and success in semiconductor design is recognised at an international level and that business confidence in the sector is high.
