NI Extends Multicore to PXI and PXI Express Systems
National Instruments has announced the release of the NI 8352 and NI 8353 high-performance, multicore-based, server-class controllers for use in PXI or PXI Express systems. The NI 8352 and NI 8353 rack-mount controllers can be bundled with the appropriate MXI-Express or MXI-4 remote controllers for remote control of PXI or PXI Express chassis. The controllers offer high computing performance and make it easy to achieve high sustainable I/O bandwidth of up to 832 MB/s when bundled with a MXI-Express kit. With standard redundant array of independent disk (RAID) - configured hard drives for Windows-based systems, these controllers are ideal for high-end test and measurement applications.

Numerical Mathematics Consortium Updates Open Standard for Numerical Algorithm Development
The Numerical Mathematics Consortium has announced the latest update of its technical specification that defines an open mathematics semantics standard for development of numerical algorithms. The revision features newly ratified functions from classes that include discrete transforms, special functions, Boolean operations, comparison operations and trigonometry. In addition, the consortium released new technical documents and a revised function list to clarify how to specify and document function definitions.

NI Vision Development Module 8.5 announced by National Instruments
National Instruments has announced the newest version of the NI Vision Development Module, a comprehensive library of image processing and machine vision functions for multiple programming languages, including NI LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI as well as Microsoft C, C++, Visual Basic and .NET. With features including an improved edge-detection algorithm and support for new 2-D codes, machine designers can more efficiently enhance images, check for presence, locate features, identify objects and measure parts.

National Instruments Reports Second Quarter Revenue of $179.5 Million
National Instruments (Nasdaq: NATI) reported quarterly revenue in the second quarter of 2007 of $179.5 million, up 12 percent from Q2 2006. Diluted earnings per share (EPS) for Q2 2007 was 26 cents. This compares to NI guidance of 23 cents to 28 cents per share. Net income was $21 million, up 22 percent from Q2 2006. For Q2 2007 operating margin and net margin were 13.5 percent and 11.6 percent, respectively.

Low-Cost 6½-Digit Multimeter for PXI from NI
National Instruments has expanded its low-cost digital multimeter offering with the NI PXI-4065, a new 6½-digit multimeter for PXI. The low cost of the PXI-4065 digital multimeter along with its 6½-digit performance offers a new entry point for reliable, high-channel-count data-logging measurement systems. Engineers can combine the new multimeter with more than 150 available NI PXI switch configurations in the low-cost NI PXI-1033 integrated chassis and controller to create high-channel-count, 6½-digit data-logging systems for £2,500 or €3,600 for up to 48 channels and £7,400 or €11,000 for up to 784 channels. For further system expansion, engineers can add 3,000 channels with each additional 18-slot PXI chassis.

Petrobras Adopts NI's LabVIEW to Improve Oil and Gas Exploration
Petrobras, one of Latin America's largest oil and gas companies, has selected National Instruments' LabVIEW software and data acquisition hardware to develop a mud-gas separator for underbalanced drilling (UBD) applications. Using NI tools, Petrobras engineers have developed a high-throughput UBD application capable of reducing the time it takes for a well to become fully productive as well as eliminating the need for costly fracturing after the well is completed.

National Instruments has been honoured as a supplier to a winning product in the 2007 Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) competition, the premier awards program for the medical technology community. OptiMedica Corp. used the National Instruments LabVIEW FPGA Module and NI intelligent data acquisition (DAQ) devices to create PASCAL, an innovative laser photocoagulator. PASCAL won the gold award at the 2007 MDEA presentation ceremony, held June 13 at the Medical Design and Manufacturing East 2007 Conference and Exposition in New York.

University of Tulsa Wins NI's Most Innovative Use of Graphical System Design Award at Challenge X 2007
The University of Tulsa last week won the National Instruments Most Innovative Use of Graphical System Design Award at the third annual Challenge X: Crossover to Sustainable Mobility competition. The team built an environmentally friendly crossover sports utility vehicle based on the National Instruments LabVIEW graphical design environment. Challenge X, which took place in Detroit, Mich. from May 30 to June 7, is a four-year engineering competition to develop methods for reducing total energy consumption and emissions in a crossover vehicle while maintaining or exceeding vehicle performance and consumer acceptability.

Software-Defined Test Reaches the Tipping Point in Military and Aerospace Applications

National Instruments has announced the industry's first PXI Express high-speed instruments as well as the industry's first 18-slot PXI Express chassis. The new modular instruments include the NI PXIe-5122 100 MS/s, 100 MHz dual-channel digitiser and the NI PXIe-6537 and NI PXIe-6536 50 MHz and 25 MHz
32-channel digital I/O modules. The NI PXIe-1065 18-slot chassis offers up to 1 GB/s per-slot dedicated bandwidth and a combination of both PXI and PXI Express slots. The new PXI Express products are ideal for applications such as signal intelligence, spectral monitoring, semiconductor chip characterisation and video test.

NI LabWindows/CVI and Measurement Studio Now Compatible with Windows Vista
National Instruments has announced the release of the newest versions of LabWindows/CVI, the proven ANSI C integrated development environment, and Measurement Studio, a comprehensive suite of libraries and user interface controls for applications built using Microsoft Visual Studio. LabWindows/CVI 8.1.1 and Measurement Studio 8.1.1 provide support for Windows Vista to help engineers easily transition to the newest version of the Microsoft operating system. National Instruments has announced NI TestStand 4.0, the latest version of the company's test management software designed to help engineers develop and deploy automated validation and manufacturing test systems. The new version of NI TestStand features a streamlined sequence editor that reduces development time and increases ease of use. Engineers can use the new sequence editor to easily reconfigure the NI TestStand development environment to meet the functionality requirements of advanced systems or to facilitate the use of basic software features for new users. NI's LabVIEW 8.2.1 Provides Support for Windows Vista
National Instruments has announced the availability of a new version of LabVIEW, the graphical design platform for test, control and embedded system development, for use with Windows Vista. NI LabVIEW 8.2.1 includes both the desktop development environment as well as related application software including the LabVIEW Real-Time and LabVIEW FPGA modules. NI also released new 32-bit and 64-bit hardware drivers with support for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista. For the first time, NI is offering PXI embedded controllers with Windows Vista pre-installed as the default operating system.

NI's PCI Oscilloscopes Extend Speed and Channel Density while Lowering Test Cost
National Instruments has announced PCI versions of two popular high-speed and high-density digitisers/oscilloscopes, extending the company's high-speed PCI offering to 2 GS/s and low-cost PCI offering to £330 or €475 per channel. The National Instruments PCI-5152 general-purpose digitiser converts a desktop PC into a full-featured oscilloscope. It offers a 2 GS/s real-time sampling rate on one channel or a 1 GS/s real-time sampling rate on two simultaneous channels. For repetitive signals, the module features an equivalent-time sampling (ETS) mode to sample at up to 20 GS/s. The board features 300 MHz bandwidth and ranges from 100 mV to 10 V with 50 Ω and 1 MΩ software-selectable input impedance. Engineers can customise the NI PCI-5152 digitiser through software to perform user-defined measurements in application areas including semiconductor chip characterisation, ultrasonic nondestructive test (NDT), optical coherence tomography (OCT) and mass spectroscopy.

Francis Griffiths, a National Instruments employee for the past eighteen years, is one of eight long term members of NI staff to be promoted to Vice President. After graduating with a B Eng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology in Cardiff, Griffiths joined National Instruments UK & Ireland in 1989, shortly after the Branch opened, as an Applications Engineer on the NI Engineering Leadership Program (ELP). PXI RF Switches for Video and Communications Test from National Instruments
National Instruments has doubled its PXI RF switch offering for 50 and 75 ohm RF applications with the release of 11 new RF switches. Dr. James Truchard, CEO, President and Cofounder of National Instruments was elected to membership in the National Academy of Engineering, in U.S.A. widely considered the highest honour given in the engineering profession. National Instruments Reports Record Quarterly and Annual Revenue
National Instruments has reported record quarterly revenue in the fourth quarter of $181.5 million, a 14 percent increase over Q4 2005. Geographically, revenue in U.S. dollar terms for Q4 2006 compared to Q4 2005 was up 13 percent in the Americas, up 15 percent in Europe and up 13 percent in Asia, equaling overall growth of 14 percent. In local currency terms, revenue was up 12 percent in Europe and up 10 percent in Asia.

National Instruments has announced the release of NI DIAdem 10.1, the latest version of the interactive software for inspecting, analysing and reporting test data. DIAdem 10.1 delivers new enhancements that extend the platform's data mining and data management functionality. National Instruments also introduced NI DataFinder Server Edition, a new software solution that works with DIAdem 10.1 to make it easy for engineers to share and analyse their test data within large groups or departments.
