Power Electronics Technology Roadmap To Grow UK's Share Of £135 Billion Industry

NMI is set to establish the multi-annual innovation roadmap for the UK's complete power electronics industry. The initiative is being undertaken in partnership with government and seeks to increase the UK industry's share of the £135 billion global power electronics market. The roadmap is expected to identify key and disruptive technologies that can be exploited by UK industry and can be used to communicate to government the most effective, strategic funding opportunities.

10th anniversary NMI gala dinner and awards to be hosted by BBC's Bill Turnbull

NMI, the UK electronic systems trade body, has announced that journalist and BBC Breakfast presenter Bill Turnbull will host its annual gala dinner and awards night as the organisation celebrates 10 years of running the event. Tickets are now available and the event is open to all organisations involved with the UK electronic systems community, from chip manufacturers to software and designers, to government bodies and research organisations.

NMI & IMAPS-UK have announced the line up for their iPower Technical Conference, which takes place at the WMG, University of Warwick on 30 November & 1 December 2011.

The two-day event and networking dinner, supported by Dyson, will focus on how future products can integrate interconnectivity, intelligence and thermal management to better meet the needs of renewable power generation, electric vehicles, smart transportation systems and other applications. Presentations will be given on scenario and application directions; power electronics technology developments; materials and processes; and manufacturing and assembly.

National Strategy for Power Electronics demonstrates opportunity for UK to lead sector

The National Strategy for Power Electronics was launched at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills' London headquarters. The consultation was carried out under the leadership of BIS and NMI. Expert insight was collated to determine how the UK power electronics sector can best meet the threats to future growth and identify ways the UK government can support this expansion. Representatives from over 50 companies and 16 universities gave their input, with examples from transport, consumer/lighting, energy and industrial drives.

NMI appoints Dr Alastair McGibbon to advance members' business growth from R&D and innovation

NMI has appointed Dr Alastair McGibbon as its director of research, development and innovation policy. Alastair heads a new service that will help its members get better access to R&D funding. The newly created service will help companies make R&D a core part of their growth strategy. It will offer a tailored diagnostic, advising companies on the relevant, available public and private funding; offer support to help win funding; and broker partnerships across business, academia and the supply chain. The role will also seek to align future government funding policies with the interests of the wider Electronic Systems community.
