Digital Potentiometers With SPI InterfaceMicrochip has announced the MCP4141/2 and MCP4241/2 non-volatile digital potentiometers. The new 7- and 8-bit devices have an SPI interface and are specified over an extended temperature range of -40 to +125 degrees Celsius. Unlike mechanical potentiometers, the MCP41XX/42XX devices can be controlled digitally, via an SPI interface. This can increase system accuracy, flexibility and manufacturing throughput, while decreasing manufacturing costs. The MCP1727 is a highly efficient, adjustable output, low-power LDO in small, thermally capable packages (8-pin SOIC or 3 mm x 3 mm DFN). The combination of high output current (1.5A) and low output voltage (down to 0.8V) makes the MCP1727 ideally suited for powering a variety of power supply applications including high-performance embedded processors.

The 2x3 DFN package requires 30 percent less board space than a SOT-23 package, at a reduced height.
