FTDI Chip has further expanded its hardware and firmware support for the Android operating system with the introduction of innovative new silicon. The FT312D is a full speed (12 Mbit/s), USB host bridge IC that is designed to provide fast and simple integration of a USB link into various peripheral hardware from an Android platform that has a USB device port.
FTDI Chip offers advanced software support for its new Embedded Video Engine family through third party partnership. It has collaborated with tool chain vendor MikroElektronika, providing it with detailed libraries for accessing the popular Visual TFT graphic development solution.

The Vinculo platform allows designers to integrate powerful USB 2.0 interfacing by incorporating FTDI's Vinculum II VNC2-64 dual-channel USB Host/Slave controller with the capability of interfacing to the growing range of I/O application boards (shields) developed by the Arduino open-source community. The VNC2 combines a 16-bit/48 MHz CPU core, 256KBytes of Flash memory and 16KBytes of SRAM memory and provides support for external UART, FIFO, PWM, GPIO and SPI Slave/Master interfaces.

Future Technology Devices International Limited (FTDI) today announced the availability of multi-port variants of its USB powered USB-COM-PLUS family of communication modules. Complementing the previously released single port USB-COM232-PLUS1 module, these new modules are available in RS232 (EIA-232), RS422 (EIA-422) or RS485 (EIA-485) versions. The USB-COM232 modules provide either dual or quad port options. The USB-COM422 and USB-COM485 modules provide dual port capability for the RS422 differential and RS485 multipoint differential interfaces. Single port versions of these interface modules are also available.
Future Technology Devices International (FTDI) has announced the availability of two serial interface converter cables that incorporate transceivers to facilitate connecting RS-422 or RS-485 based peripherals to a PC's USB port. Using FTDI's FT232RQ USB to asynchronous serial interface IC, the USB-RS485-WE converter cable includes an RS-485 transceiver while the USB-RS422-WE cable utilises a RS-422 transceiver. The far end of the 1.8m cables are wire ended (no connector).
Future Technology Devices International (FTDI) has announced the availability of two evaluation modules to support their recently announced FT2232H and FT4232H USB 2.0 High Speed devices, which have the capability of being configured in a variety of industry standard serial or parallel interfaces such as UART or FIFO. The module PCB measures just 36mm (L) x 30mm (W) x 12mm (H –including connector pins). Each module provides access to all the required signals through two 26 way (2 rows, 0.1" pitch) male headers measuring 32.9mm x 5.08mm. The pin length is 6mm.

Future Technology Devices International Limited announced today the availability of its USB-RS232-WE cable that provides easy interfacing of USB to RS232-based devices. The 1.8m cable has a small PCB encapsulated into the USB connector that contains an FTDI FT232R serial UART IC interface plus a RS232 level shifter to provide true RS232 voltage levels. The integrated electronics also include Tx and Rx LEDs giving a visual indication of traffic on the cable via the transparent USB connector.
Future Technology Devices International has announced the availability of its USB-Key security device. Using a unique, hard-coded identification number, the device can interface to any USB host or hub to provide application software access control (security dongle) or as part of a more sophisticated key-based physical access control. During manufacture, the USB-Key has a unique FTDIChip-ID number burnt into it. This number is only readable over the USB interface, making it ideal for PC or embedded security developments. The USB-Key, compatible with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 specifications, derives its power from the USB interface and does not require any external supply or battery.

Future Technology Devices International has announced that Parallax Inc has selected FTDI's VNC1L, Vinculum IC for use in a new datalogger design. The Memory Stick Datalogger, now available from Parallax, uses the VNC1L to provide ease of connectivity to USB flash drives. The datalogger module can be used with a variety of Parallax's educational and development systems such as BASIC Stamp, SX or Propeller Microcontroller.

Future Technology Devices International (FTDI) has announced availability of the VF2F2 reference design module for its Vinculum VNC1L embedded USB host controller. The design incorporates a practical firmware application that demonstrates file transfer using the USB mass storage class interface. It permits moving files from a USB device, such as a digital camera, to a USB flash disk. The design could also be used to transfer files between other mass storage class devices such as MP3 players or between two USB flash disks. The module is equipped with two USB type A sockets and four control buttons. An onboard DC-DC converter provides 5V and 3.3V supply from the attached battery pack that holds 2 x AAA cells. Four LEDs provide indication of flash disk enumeration, file copy, power and error conditions.

FTDI announces the availability of the DLP-VLOG, a development platform based on its Vinculum Universal Serial Bus (USB) host controller IC. The platform, configured as a simple data logging application, is designed to read temperature, humidity and voltage data, and store it on the supplied 32MB USB flash drive. A Microchip microcontroller used together with the Vinculum IC serves to illustrate how to provide virtually unlimited data storage to a small microcontroller. The DLP-VLOG provides a complete reference design on which to base new Vinculum development as well as being a starting point for similar logging applications.
