Belden has launched version 8.0 of the software platform from its Hirschmann product range. The new release significantly extends the functionality of managed switches from the MACH, MICE, Rail and OCTOPUS families. Depending on the switch family, new features include special tools such as an integrated IEC61850 server for seamless integration with data networks for power generation and distribution.
Belden has begun offering a cost-effective upgrade of Industrial HiVision network management software from its Hirschmann product range. This takes the form of a new Annual Maintenance Plan. For a single payment, users with a full license for versions 04.0.00 or later will automatically receive the latest release for a period of twelve months.

The new switches also occupy considerably less space than those with an external power supply and are also easier to install and maintain.

Belden has launched a new Robotic product program for the Lumberg Automation range in the EMEA region. The Lumflex STL 500 is a UL-certified, four-pole control cable with a torsional strength of +/- 720° per meter. It is also fire-retardant, resistant to lubricants, acids, alkalis and UV radiation, and capable of withstanding welding sparks. The operating temperature range is -45°C to +80°C.
Belden has announced the EMEA region launch of the OCTOPUS Train-BP, a new managed IP67 switch in its Hirschmann product range. This switch, which is available with 8, 16 or 24 Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 BASE TX), has been especially developed for use in trains. It fulfills all the specific EMC and fire prevention requirements for rail vehicles and also has numerous redundancy mechanisms plus two uplink ports with bypass relays. This means that connections between neighbouring switches are maintained even when an OCTOPUS fails.

Belden has introduced in the EMEA region an entirely new operating system for the managed switches in its Hirschmann product program – HiOS. Since 1971, well over a hundred million of Hirschmann's ST-series connectors have been produced. Belden announced release 7.0 of its software platform from the Hirschmann product series, used in the MACH, MICE, Rail and OCTOPUS families of managed switches from Hirschmann. Like previous versions, the latest release of this software platform offers a range of functions normally only found in backbone systems for the office area. These include comprehensive management, diagnosis and filter functions plus various redundancy methods, security mechanisms and realtime applications. In addition to DVMRP and PIM-DM, the new PIM-SM multicast protocol is provided for Layer 3, enabling optimum utilization of bandwidth. The configuration, security and service functions have also been further enhanced.
Belden has extended its Hirschmann product range with a 9-port version of the OCTOPUS OS20 series. The Hirschmann basic software is installed on this layer-2 switch, which meets the requirements of protection class IP67. This software supports both various management and security functions and fast redundancy methods such as HIPER-Ring, MRP and RSTP. The new Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 BASE-TX) have vibration-resistant M12 connections in D-coding. Further features include a robust metal housing and an extended temperature range from -40° to +70° C. The OCTOPUS also meets EMC and fire protection requirements for use in rail vehicles. An E-1 approval with the German Federal Motor Transport Authority has also been applied for. As the switch can be cascaded in any way, decentrally structured automation networks with short transmission paths can be implemented with the respective terminal devices. The OCTOPUS's redundancy method and a redundant voltage supply guarantee high network availability.
Belden has brought out a new I/O module in its Lumberg Automation™ range specifically for the decentralized Fieldbus system LioN-Link.
