Primary lithium cells gain Asian contract

Saft has won contracts to supply around 5m of its Eternacell branded primary lithium cells to leading OEMs for electricity metering projects in China, India and Taiwan. The contracts represent a significant commercial breakthrough for the Eternacell brand developed specifically for utility metering applications in emerging economies, where the cells offer a suitable combination of value for money, performance and long life.

Lithium battery contract to supply the French army
Following the signing of a multi-million Euro contract with Ineo Support Global (a subsidiary of GDF Suez), Saft will supply lithium cells and batteries for France’s land army forces. This agreement will play a key role in Ineo Support Global’s strategy to become the leading logistics operator in France’s military outsourcing sector.

Saft Lithium Batteries Power Sensile Technologies' Smart Telemetry Devices

Saft has today announced that it has signed a contract with Sensile Technologies to provide over 20,000 primary lithium batteries to power smart remote GSM telemetry and level-monitoring systems for oil and gas storage tanks. The batteries, based on Saft LS17500 lithium-thionyl chloride (Li-SOCl2) cells, offer a service life of 7 to 10 years, making them ideal for Sensile Technologies’ devices, which will be installed at remote locations for customers who demand reliability and long life.

Saft takes control of Nersac lithium-ion battery factory

Saft announces that it has bought from Johnson Controls Inc the Nersac Li-ion battery facility near Angoulême in France. This transaction took place on 1st January 2013, in line with the agreement concluded with Johnson Controls on 30th September 2011 relating to the sale of Saft’s shares in the Johnson Controls-Saft joint venture, for a total consideration of $145m.

Saft receives multi-million dollar Li-ion battery order from Boeing for Inmarsat satellites

Saft is preparing to fill its next order for lithium-ion (Li-ion) space batteries as part of a five-year Long Term Agreement signed with Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems in 2009. Under the multi-million dollar contract, Saft will deliver 12 battery packs of highenergy Li-ion batteries for Boeing’s 702HP satellites being built for the Inmarsat-5 series. The Saft batteries with VES140S cells will power three new Ka-band satellites, adding to Inmarsat’s current fleet of 11 GEO satellites.
