Nujira raises $12 million from latest funding round

Nujira has raised a further $12 million in its latest funding round, securing the rollout of the company’s Coolteq.L IC technology for mobile handsets and supporting the ramp to volume production. The latest funding round included a new investor, Zurich-based SAM Private Equity, as well as existing investors Amadeus Capital Partners, Climate Change Capital, Environmental Technologies Fund, NES Partners and angel investors.

Nujira becomes Contributor Member of MIPI Envelope Tracking Subgroup

Nujira announced that it is a Contributor Member in the newly formed Envelope Tracking Subgroup of the MIPI Alliance Analog Control Interface Working Group. The MIPI Alliance Envelope Tracking Subgroup will focus on developing MIPI Specifications that facilitate wider adoption of this energy saving technology in smartphones and other mobile devices. In addition to Nujira, members of the Subgroup include Anadigics, Intel, Motorola Mobility, Nokia, Panasonic, Peregrine Semiconductor, Qualcomm, Quantance, Renesas, RFMD, Skyworks, ST-Ericsson, and Texas Instruments. Nujira has been a member of the MIPI Alliance since 2010 and was earlier this year invited to become a Contributor Member of the Alliance to participate in the Investigation Group that led to the formation of the Envelope Tracking Subgroup.

The company also appeared in the top 30 listing of the awards for the third year running. Nujira, the world’s leading provider of Envelope Tracking technology, today announced that it has opened an IC Design Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland, and it has been awarded £175,000 funding from Scottish Development International to support the initiative. The new design centre opened today with a small team of engineers but has plans to draw on the pool of IC design expertise based in the region to triple the design centre’s headcount by the end of 2012.

Nujira and Xilinx complete FPGA envelope tracking reference design

Nujira and Xilinx today announced the first successful integration of envelope tracking (ET) technology with a third-party digital pre-distortion (DPD) solution running on an FPGA. The two companies have delivered a reference design for a cellular base station PA circuit with Nujira’s Coolteq.h envelope tracking modulator linearised by a Xilinx DPD block running on a Xilinx Virtex 6 FPGA platform. Envelope signal generation in the FPGA was implemented using Nujira’s Envelope Generation Interface, which is compliant with the openET Alliance’s specification for infrastructure ET modulators.

Nujira to put ET Envelope Tracking) into 800 million handsets
Nujira today unveiled its roadmap for putting its Coolteq Envelope Tracking technology into 800 million handsets worldwide by 2016. The company is announcing its second generation handset test chip at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, in February 2011, as well as the completion of an Envelope Tracking Processor IC for cellular network infrastructure. Nujira has secured additional funding from its investors to help realise its handset vision, and interest from leading silicon vendors in the handset ecosystem has led to the expansion of its handset engineering team.

Nujira today announced the release of its first PA platform for military communications, halving the power dissipation for a transmitter covering an entire frequency octave. Such a transmitter can be built using just using just one PA device together with a Coolteq power modulator module.

Sanmina-SCI named as Nujira Supplier of the Year
Nujira has presented its first ever Supplier of the Year award to Sanmina-SCI, in Shenzhen, China. Sanmina-SCI started volume production of the Nujira Coolteq™.h power modulator module for cellular base stations in December 2008. Nujira Coolteq modules can halve the energy consumption of 3G and 4G base stations by improving the efficiency of the RF transmission circuits.

Major deal for Nujira handset technology

Nujira today announced that it has licensed its Coolteq.L handset technology to a Tier 1 semiconductor vendor in the handset ecosystem. Coolteq is an envelope tracking based technology that dramatically increases the power efficiency of transmitters in cellular handsets, network infrastructure, digital broadcasts and military communications.
