New technology that enables an image to remain on the display screen without using any power, until the image needs to change has been released by GTK.

The GTK range of K series subminiature (2.92 mm) connectors and cable assemblies are suitable for use in high-frequency applications that are typical in military, security and instrumentation markets. The K series connector is identical to and fully compatible with the SMA connector series by virtue of the same physical dimensions, but it uses an air dielectric, which ensures superior performance at high frequencies.

Overmoulded cable assemblies are the definitive choice for use in harsh and demanding environments. They are widely used in both consumer and industrial environments as they offer a variety of valuable benefits. In consumer electronics, overmoulding offers durability, protection from tampering and safeguards against moisture ingress, making it the finish of choice for I/O connections and desktop and networking products.

As of November 2015, GTK UK is certified to manufacture cable assemblies and box builds for the aerospace, military and security sectors. The AS9100C standard is the globalised certification that demonstrates full traceability on the components used in production – as well as the necessary rigour in terms of product and process conformance.

GTK has expanded its range of TFTs to include larger displays, with new screen sizes ranging from 10.1” through to 15.6”. “We are seeing increasing demand for larger size TFTs from the military, medical, industrial and audio markets,” stated Clive Dickinson, Business Manager for Optoelectronics, GTK.

GTK announced the availability of O-Film technology, which, when used in conjunction with standard TFT displays, dramatically improves the achievable viewing angles. The O-Film is a polariser that is applied to the display and redirects light, providing all round viewing angles to any standard TFT to which it is applied.

GTK's Basingstoke facility has been AS9100C certified by NQA for the manufacture of cable assemblies and box build. The standard is generally accepted  as the standard quality management system for the aerospace, defence and security industries, with major manufacturers in these three sectors requiring AS9100 throughout their supply chain.

  The use of overmoulding technology for electronic components and assemblies offers a number of substantial performance benefits. In addition to the ability to customise the final product form, overmoulding can also incorporate branding into the finished product design.

GTK UK announced the launch of a range of TFT displays fitted with an integral MCU board. These plug & play displays can be used as development modules by design engineers and help to speed up new product design times by reducing the time needed for programming, as the board has a built-in command table.

GTK has introduced a range of USB Type-C connectors, cable assemblies and adaptors for use in emerging consumer electronic applications. The USB Type-C connector can be used to connect both hosts and devices and its reversible plug orientation and cable direction means that it will no longer matter which end of the cable or side of the connector is plugged in to the device. The range of removable memory card connectors has been expanded by GTK UK to include a hinged MicroSD card connector and a combined MicroSD/SIM connector. The hinged connector is suitable for use in applications where high vibration or shock is a potential issue, as the robust hinge locks the card securely in place.

Expanding its TFT display products, GTK has introduced a series of 'letterbox' footprint modules which are available in sizes from 3.9 to 11”. The modules are compliant with all relevant industry requirements and offer high performance in terms of brightness, viewing angles and operating temperature range. GTK can also offer design support, custom enhancements and associated connector products where required.

GTK has obtained approval under the UL wiring harness traceability programme, enabling the cable assembly manufacturer to produce wiring harnesses for OEMs whilst maintaining complete traceability of all of the components. The UL programme was designed to meet the increasing complexity of global manufacturing processes.

  Available in 11-61 positions, the ZIF connector range has been expanded by GTK with the addition of 0.3mm FPC connectors. These connectors incorporate a dual-contact style for design flexibility, and a back-flip actuator for easy insertion of the flexible printed circuit.

GTK offers a value-added service to customers, assisting with the design and manufacture of overmoulded cable assemblies. Overmoulding technology provides a number of design and environmental benefits for cable assemblies, making them more robust and able to withstand harsher environments.

  A range of microwave and RF cable assemblies, connectors and adaptors has been introduced by GTK. Manufactured across a range of family sizes, from standard through to ultra-miniature, the devices support frequencies of up 110GHz.

TFT displays, suitable for outdoor environments, have been released by GTK. For enhanced readability in outdoor environments, the displays feature optical bonding. During the production process, an optical bonding adhesive is used to fix a protective, glass cover lens to the front of a display. Through this process, the contrast ratio is enhanced which is useful when there is bright sunlight or high humidity.

Suitable for industrial applications, GTK has announced TFT modules with integral capacitive touchscreens as a standard product. Available on TFTs with screen sizes of 3.5, 4.3 and 7.0”, the modules feature wide viewing angles, good contrast and brightness ratios and an operating temperature range from -20 to +70°C.

Suitable for discrete wire applications, GTK offers a comprehensive portfolio of disconnectable wire to board connectors available in pitches of 0.8-3.96mm, with pin counts from 2-50. Other options include single or dual row styles, right angle or vertical PCB mounting and through-hole or SMT mounting options.
