A stereo audio CODEC supporting both analogue and digital microphones has been introduced by Dolphin Integration. The sCODa-MT1-LR.01 is suitable for SoCs targeting wireless audio devices, such as Bluetooth speakers or sound bars, where sound performance and die cost are pivotal.

The sCODa-MT1-LR.01 leverages the high density of a pure logic PMW modulator with the advantage of the high dynamic range of a mixed-signal ADC. Indeed, the CODEC’s ultra-low silicon area, close to one square millimeter, contributes to positioning it as the leading converter for cost-effectiveness.

Features include:
• One ADC channel with analogue microphone circuitry
• One digital microphone input channel
• AGC to prevent audio signal saturation on the microphone input
• Wind noise filters to reduce environment disturbances and enhance voice quality
• PLL-less feature to protect audio signals against any performance drop due to jittered clock issues
• 2 DAC channels (R/L) with PWM for speaker or headphone outputs

The sCODa-MT1-LR.01 is delivered with a handbook of reference application schematics, helping customers to select external components for a large range of output types and performances.

The CODEC is available at 65nm TSMC, but easily retargetable from 130 to 28nm at leading foundry processes.
