Inertial Aerosystems has launched a new, miniature, low cost, Quartz Dual Axis Rate Sensor (QDARS) manufactured by U.S. based Systron Donner. Designated QRS28, it is designed to measure angular movement in two orthogonal axies. Ideal for military and demanding commercial uses where stabilization of moving or vibrating platforms is an issue, it has simple DC to DC operation using two of Systron Donner's MEMS gyrochip rate sensors.
This innovative product has no moving parts and is contained in a hermetically sealed stainless steel cylinder, for use in hostile environments and where high reliability is required. The QRS28 is a perfect choice where space and weight are at a premium, measuring 26.7mm x 18mm and weighing 20 grams. It has low power consumption at <0.5 watts (at 5 Vdc) with low noise and a temperature range of -55 to 85 degrees C

Applications include; Platform stabilisation, Guidance and control, Autopilot control, Gun and optical line of site stabilisation, Missile seeker head stabilisation, Instrumentation and fast slewing, low noise, scanning systems.
