Small form factor industrial PCs are becoming ever more popular. With this in mind, Amplicon has developed the Impact-E PCIe compact fanless embedded system powered by the Intel Atom D525 dual-core processor. The latest addition to the successful Impact-E series, Amplicon’s new industrial embedded PC is intended for a multitude of applications supporting PCIe.

The new Impact-E PCIe system is available with either 4 or 8 COM ports; both options are software configurable to RS232/422/485. This choice allows for greater flexibility and ease of use, therefore the Impact-E PCIe no longer needs to be taken apart for dipswitches to be set. This negates any potential misconfiguration and significantly reduces installation time.

The new embedded PC also comes pre-fitted with a choice of high-density serial communication cards. It is also possible for the Impact-E PCIe to be pre-fitted with Amplicon DAQ cards: PCIe-236 or PCIe-296. Eliminating the additional cost of expensive signal conditioning equipment, both of these cards provide a 0 to +50VDC I/O range with up to 96 flexible digital I/O channels.

Offering space for two 2.5” hard drives or solid-state drives, the Impact-E PCIe also features space for an optional Compact Flash card. In order to effectively dissipate heat, Amplicon’s new compact embedded system is encased in a fanless aluminium chassis. This ensures smooth operation in even the most demanding of industrial environments.

Featuring a very compact footprint of just 200 x 66 x 220mm (W x H x D), the Impact-E PCIe is designed for space-critical applications within multiple markets such as security, industrial automation, transportation, point of sales and laboratory automation.

“The Impact-E PCIe embedded PC is a cost effective, compact solution, offering customisation and wide expansion options at an affordable cost,” comments Gavin Chalkley, Industrial computing specialist at Amplicon.
