Developed for smart factories, a Modbus gateway has been introduced by ORing. The IDS-M311 Modbus gateway facilitates the integration of serial devices on the edge of industrial networks with the Ethernet network. With the gateway, communication between the commonly used RTU, ASCII and TCP factory protocols is enabled.

This allows Modbus equipment with non IP-based interfaces such as DCS, PLC, HMI, electric power load measurement systems and other sensors or measuring devices to communicate and exchange data over Ethernet. The gateway, therefore, enables higher management and operating efficiency.

The IDS-M311, which is a 1-port Modbus, supports RS-232/422/485. While the gateway supports communications between Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU/ASCII, it is also able to support up to 16 TCP masters and 32 requests simultaneously. The gateway supports up to 31 RTU/ASCII devices, allowing it to connect a high density of Modbus nodes on the same network. While Modbus serial salves can be integrated with the existing Modbus TCP networks, the serial masters also access Modbus TCP salves.

The IDS-M311 features dual power supplies for redundancy, and has a light, compact enclosure with a DIN rail design, making it suitable for securing serial-to-Ethernet data communications. Sold in one piece quantities, the gateway is priced at $99.
