Advantech has announced the arrival of the MIO-2263 SBC in a 2.5” Pico-ITX (100x72mm) form factor. Based on the Intel Atom processor E3800 product family, it is the first SoC designed for intelligent systems with quad core computing, high graphics and media performance. MIO-2263 is a fanless SBC designed for operation across the temperature range of -40 to +85°C.

MIO-2263 incorporates built-in Intel AES New Instructions to enhance security and enable fast date encryption and decryption. It has a low thermal design power range (6W to 10W), and comes equipped with a flexible multiple I/O interface (MIOe expansion slot) which can extend additional functions easily, even in a tiny space. MIO-2263 is a suitable solution for efficient image processing, digital signage with secure delivery, interactive clients with high I/O connectivity, industrial control systems and portable devices. It offers low maintenance and a long life cycle.

MIO-2263 adopts the Intel Silvermont micro architecture, providing enhancements over previous generation Intel Atom processor families. Intel's 22nm process technology, with 3-D Tri-Gate transistors, features significant improvements in computing, graphic performance and energy efficiency, with security enhancements and content protection via Intel AES-NI which allows security algorithms to take advantage of hardware acceleration for data encryption and decryption. MIO-2263 also supports Intel Virtualisation Technology to increase virtualisation performance by allowing the operating system more direct access to the hardware. This allows system integrators to build intelligent systems more easily, with improved performance and reliability.

MIO-2263 graphics is based on Gen 7 Intel Graphics Architecture with support for DirectX 11, Open GL 4.0, and OpenGL 1.2; full HD video playback; video transcoding and encoding functionality. It contains Intel HD Graphics 4000 and features support for HDMI 1.4a with maximum resolution of 2560x1600 at 60 Hz and dual-display support. Hardware acceleration for video decode is enabled for H.264, MVC, VPG8, JPEG/mJPEG, VC1/WMV9, and MPEG2 standards. MIO-2263 also supports dual display output through VGA/HDMI and 24-bit LVDS. With improved media and graphics performance, MIO-2263 is suitable for any graphics, imaging, and video intensive application for embedded intelligent systems.

Fanless designs are a very important consideration for dustproof requirements, with benefits including longer MTBF, dust-free, noiseless, and zero fan maintenance, and 24/7 operation. The design for MIO-2263 thermal solution is a sound choice for medical, automation, military or transportation applications. Its slim size makes it suitable for IoT and embedded systems which require both higher reliability and performance.

Advantech’s MIO-2263 adopts the IEC standard for Electro Static Discharge protection for the COM port transceiver with 15kV air gap protection/8kV contact protection for RS-232. MIO-2263 was designed with 100% solid capacitors with small ESR and better MTBF than electrolytic capacitors, and its high Tg PCB value (TG-170) means the PCB is more stable under high temperature operation. The whole specification and verifying process are designed to ensure that MIO-2263 is a highly reliable solution.

MIO-2263 includes Advantech’s remote management software SUSIAccess, which builds intelligent management functions into embedded computing applications, ensuring continuous system uptime, and reduced maintenance costs. SUSIAccess constantly monitors the health of multiple devices and sends out alarm notifications via e-mails and SMS messages if any abnormal situations occur. SUSIAccess also provides other powerful utilities such as System Recovery (powered by Acronis), System Protection (powered by McAfee) and Remote KVM, for protection against and recovery of possible system faults.
