Type 10 COM Express Mini Module Supports Next-Gen Intel Atom Processors

DFI has today announced the CD9A3 Series, a new Type 10 COM Express Mini module supporting the next-generation Intel Atom processors. This is DFI’s first COM Express Mini form factor pairing a range of Intel Atom processors with an Intel NM10 Express chipset. The Intel Atom processors available (N2600, N2800, and D2550) are detailed in the table below.
Providing low power consumption, higher clock frequencies and faster memory access than their predecessors, the new dual-core processors are built on Intel’s 32-nanometer process technology. Paired with the new COM EXpress Mini modules, the Intel NM10 Express chipset offers stunning and seamless visual experiences to fulfill the carrier board requirements, as well as providing excellent processing performances in media, graphics and I/O flexibilities.

The next-generation Intel GMA Graphics 3650 (with the Intel Atom D2550/N2800 processors) and 3600 (with the Intel Atom N2600 processor) engine integrate into these platforms to support high-end enhanced media, graphics capabilities and to improve performance. DirectX Video Acceleration increases performance, providing acceleration of complex audio, video, and image processing. Integrated into the CD9A3 Series, the Intel GMA Graphics accelerator offers LVDS and DDI display outputs to support 2 independent display capabilities.

The CD9A3-28B20 and CD9A3-26B20 with the Intel Atom N2800/N2600 processors display LVDS output up to 18bit, 1366x768 resolution. The CD9A3-25B20 with the Intel Atom D2550 processor displays LVDS output up to 18/24bit, 1440x900 resolution. HDMI/DVI displays graphics resolution up to 1920x1200, and DisplayPort displays up to 1600x1200 resolutions. Hardware H.264/AVC, MPEG-2 video decoder, VC-1, DirectX 9, and 1080p decoder can also be supported by the graphics devices on the CD9A3 Series.



The CD9A3 Series is designed with 2GB DDR3 onboard, delivering maximum performance with low voltage memory for faster communication between components. Placed on the processor die, the memory controller and graphics core provide a tightly-coupled, two-chip system architecture resulting in higher performance and lower power consumption. An optional SSD device, the onboard memory storage offers the persistent function of data storage up to 32GB and operates the maximum performance of write at 30MB/sec and read at 70MB/sec.

The CD9A3-26B20 with heatsink (fanless solution) uses the Intel Atom N2600 processor to offer the modest performance with 1.6GHz clock speed. This is suited for applications that require a low power solution with passive cooling. The CD9A3-25B20 with heatsink, plus cooling fan, and the CD9A3-28B20 with heatsink (fanless solution) use the Intel Atom D2550/N2800 processors to operate at 1.86GHz clock speed, offering maximum performance.

The CD9A3 Series COM Express Mini modules provide High Definition Audio interface, 8-bit Digital I/O connector for device controls, and the Intel I210AT Gigabit LAN controller integrated up to 1GB transciever. For applications requiring fast storage speed, the AHCI controller integrated into the CD9A3 Series supports 2 Serial ATA 2.0 interfaces with data transfer rate up to 3Gb/s. With 8 USB 2.0 ports, these new PICMG COM Express Mini form factors allow your system to process more data load and provide faster loading of frequently used applications. The expansion design of the CD9A3 Series platforms offers additional capabilities for customers’ multiple demands via 3 PCIe x1 slots.

These features make the CD9A3 Series ideal for unlimited usage on various industrial applications requiring a stable revision-controlled platform, such as industrial control automation, digital signage, medical equipment, and KIOSK embedded applications.
