The T24-SA is a miniature amplifier for strain gauges and similar devices, newly available from Aptifirst. Fabricated using state-of-the-art surface-mount technology, the T24-SA operates at 2.4GHz and, with just 1mW output, does not require a licence anywhere in the world. It operates as a two-way transceiver using the MS(QPSK) modulation method, using 16 channels and Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) modulation. Using the integral attenna, it has a range of approximately 100m (325ft), although this can be extended to about 200m (650ft) by using an optional external attenna.
The strain gauge amplifier section is fully digital and provides a nominal 5V excitation voltage for 4-wire strain gauge bridges of impedence 85 to 5,000 ohms and a maximum gauge sensitivity of 3.2 mV/V. The resolution of the strain reading depends upon the rate the data is required; a resolution of 1 part in 400,000 (18.75 bits) is achievable at a sampling time of 10 seconds, whereas as resolution of 1 part in 50,000 (15.5 bits) at a sampling time of < 10ms. The amplifier operates at an internal resolution of 1 part in 16,000,000 (24 bits).

The T25-SA is powered from a nominal 3V DC power supply, ideal for operation using miniature batteries, and, in standby mode, consumes only 5-20 microamps. In operational mode, the typical current consumption is 60mA.

Said Roy Carter, Aptifirst's Senior Partner, The T24-SA is a versatile, light-weight, high-speed, digital strain gauge conditioning amplifier with low current consumption, which we are very pleased to be able to offer, It complements the rest of the T24 radio telemetry range, which includes base stations for configuration and operation using a computer, serial, display and analogue output modules, digital, current and voltage input modules and more besides, making a very versatile telemetry system for many applications, including R&D, field monitoring, plant and QA, and troubleshooting.
