Pulse Electronics has today introduced a new integrated connector module platform for 10GBASE-T (10 gigabit over twisted-pair) switches. Pulse's 10 gig ICMs are qualified with leading 10GBASE-T silicon vendors, meeting their stringent requirements and facilitating the implementation of 10GBASE-T in large enterprises and cloud data centres.
The family includes the four most common port configurations: 2x2, 2x4, 2x6, and 2x8, available with solder through-hole or press fit pin technology. Pulse's 10 gig ICMs and application support enable system designers to eliminate extensive qualification, speeding time to market for their products.

The Pulse 10 gig ICMs have a patented shielding system that prevents noise interference from adjacent ports, ensuring optimal data transmission. The ICMs are tuned to have flat insertion loss curves and excellent return loss performance over 10GBASE-T frequencies. They meet IEEE 802an and UL 60950 requirements. Unique to this family is a light pipe that replaces integrated LEDs. With this new design, customers can change LED specifications without having to change the ICM, which streamlines procurement because the same part can be used on multiple systems. This new platform also has the flexibility to support 1 gig or 10 gig magnetic designs with the same volumetric footprint.

According to Crehan Research, 10 gigabit Ethernet switch ports will enjoy a four-fold increase over the next five years as 10GBASE-T technology is being adopted by a majority of data centers for use in server access and switch port connections. We expect that 10GBASE-T will be a key driver of the strong ramp in 10 gigabit Ethernet switch ports over the coming years, and its growth should significantly outpace that of the market, said Seamus Crehan, president of Crehan Research.

Pulse's 10 gig ICM family is a critical element in the propagation of 10GBASE-T technology, explained Chad Oblak, product manager, Pulse Electronics. It is extremely difficult to design a 10 gig ICM that meets the IEEE and system EMI requirements, and it is even more difficult to manufacture 10 gig ICMs in high volume with a consistent and high level of quality. Major switch manufacturers recognize and endorse Pulse's expertise and ability to support this technology.

Pulse Electronics has invested in the development of products to enable Ethernet LAN technologies for over 25 years, since 1 mbps Star Lan was introduced in 1986. This new platform is the most advanced platform Pulse has developed for the switching market.
