A small smart card connector with self-cleaning wiping contacts that ensures a reliable data connection on every insertion, has been introduced by Industrial@Amphenol. The compact and robust Card|Mate connector can withstand up to 500,000 mating cycles and measures just 57x30.5x5mm, providing the smallest form factor, according to the company.

Its size and security features make it suitable for use in payment terminals and physical access systems for networks, where space is limited, yet data is highly sensitive. Eight data contacts in the rear of each unit help avoid manipulation via the card slot and to protect against fraud. They also allow for easy access to the contacts should re-work be required during the PCB assembly process.

There is a dust protection as well as a debris slot at the rear of the connector. They can be SMT soldered and comply with ISO 7810 and ISO 7816 for electronic ID cards. They have an operating temperature of -25 to +70°C. It has a current rating of up to 1A and a rated voltage of up to 15VDC. The data contacts have a maximum contact resistance of 100, while the switch has a contact resistance of 1Ω.
