The CombiTac connector system from Stäubli Electrical Connectors has been expanded to include a 10Gbit Ethernet module for high speed data communications in demanding environments. An existing 10Gbit CombiTac module has RJ45 termination suitable for static or minimal motion applications, whereas the new CAT6A carriers have a more robust M12 screw type interface.

High resistance to shock and vibration in accordance with EN 61373 category 1B makes them suitable for use in industrial and factory automation environments, while smoke and fire compliance to EN 45545-2 means they can be specified for rail applications.

The rugged, UL compliant connectors have shielded pins to protect against impact damage, and are rated for as many as 100,000 mating cycles. The operating temperature range is -40 to 90°C.

Supplied fully assembled, the 8-pin x-coded M12 connectors are expected to have applications for high speed data transfer in the manufacturing, robotics, machine-to-machine communication (M2M) and rail sectors.

CombiTac connectors can be fitted with any combination of high voltage, high current, data, fibre optic, power, thermocouple and coaxial contact modules, and even pneumatic and fluid connectors.

They achieve their long term reliability due to the use of MULTILAM technology, a proprietary contact system that uses multiple torsion spring contact elements that allow electrical contact to be made via a large number of contact points. This arrangement substantially reduces contact resistance and ensures strong resistance to shock and vibration.

An interactive configuration tool on the dedicated CombiTac website enables engineers to build modular assemblies online, explore the final product, review assembly dimensions and request a quotation.
