At SPS IPC Drives 2015 in Nuremberg, TE Connectivity launched a range of rectangular HDCs (Heavy Duty Connectors), suitable for applications in harsh environments within machinery, robotics, railway, wind energy and conventional energy generation and distribution. The product range utilises a modular design, enabling customers to realise a structured approach to install equipment conveniently and efficiently.

TE Connectivity’s HDC range delivers outstanding, reliable performance in harsh environments and provides data, signal and power connection solutions between different devices in various applications. The modular and standard interface design maximize the application’s efficiency.

TE’s HDC products consist of three key elements: inserts, contacts and hoods and housings. The inserts and contacts are modular and assembled together to provide electrical performance offering crimp- screw- and spring-clamp termination technology. Beside the conventional machined contacts, an increasing portfolio of inserts supporting TE Connectivity’s Dynamic stamped and formed contacts – the high performance, modular power & signal connector system. The hoods and housings are mainly made of die-casted aluminium or thermoplastic, robustly structured to provide mechanical and environmental protection for the connector. The waterproof anti-corrosion housing ensures that TE’s HDC products work under harsh environments and even meet customers’ outdoor connection needs.

TE’s HDC product series support a wide range of electrical requirements, e.g. a rated current from 5 to 350A and a pin count of more than 200. The modular system provides a high degree of flexibility so solutions can be customised for different applications, without the need for modifications.

Claus Kleedörfer, Global Product Manager, Heavy Duty Connectors, TE Connectivity, commented: “This new range of HDC products was developed by TE’s HDC centre of competence, following our acquisition of SIBAS, a long-standing fully integrated manufacturer of heavy duty connectors. By combining the know-how of the two companies, we were able to introduce the new HDC range now globally.

“TE is now able to offer customers more than 2.000 HDC products via our worldwide sales network that will allow our partners, customers and prospects to be more competitive in their markets without making any compromises in terms of product performance and still being fully intermateable with the already installed base of rectangular Heavy Duty Connectors.”
