ITT Interconnect Solutions has announced the development of a new lightweight sealed connector for low-pressure applications for the prevention of water or air ingress up to a pressure of 15psi. Standard Mil-DTL-38999 series III Class Y hermetic connectors provide superior performance in high-pressure applications, but require heavy stainless steel shells and glass to metal compression sealing, with considerable weight implications. ITT ICS’ new KJAYA sealed lightweight connector is a Mil-DTL 38999 series III style interconnect with aluminium shells which provides a water- and air-tight solution, yet reduces overall connector weight by over 25%.
KJAYA’s design innovations include copper-based contacts for reduced electrical resistance, and drop-in PC tail connectors for fast termination to the PCB or flex circuitry. There’s also a crimp contact version with standard M39029/57 short socket contacts on a wire for both pin and socket layouts to assist automated crimp terminated cable installation and fast repairs. It is available in a full design range of Mil-DTL-38999 Series III insert patterns with contact sizes 22, 20, 16 and 12. Both wall mounting and jam-nut mounting receptacles versions are available, in shell sizes 9 to 25.

The special sealants utilised in KJAYA sealed lightweight aluminium connectors are designed to cope with 1x10 to the minus 7 cubic cm per second sealing at 15psi. Suitable applications include aircraft bulkheads, avionics, ground radars, radios, battery packs and weapon controls and military video surveillance systems.
