Claiming to be the most durable data link connectors in its class, the Max-M12 from Amphenol fulfills SAE J2839 and IEC 61076-2-101 specifications. The connector withstands connector to cable retention forces of 444N and contact retention forces of 110N, which have been tested at 100 mating cycles minimum.

Backward compatible, the connector can be mated with any standard M12 with the same indexing. Housed in a HDM 12 EX impact resistant metal or plastic shell, the connector has been designed to endure high vibration and extreme temperatures ranging from -55°C to 125°C. Maintaining a current rating of 4 A, the Max-M12 is available as a 90° right angle connector or as a straight version, with the metal version being required for shielding. The 4- and 5-pin configurations are available with A, B, D and P polarity codes in line with IEC 61076-2-101 specifications. The elctrical insulation provided with the connector provides a resistance of over 20, while providing a high temperature life of 1,000 hours at 125°C. The contacts are rated at less than or equal to 10 each with a maximum drop of 50mV.

The connector can be terminated using solder terminals with 0.8 mm² (18 AWG) or 0.5 mm² (20 AWG) wires as defined by SAE J1128, and 0.75 mm² or 0.50 mm² conductors as defined by ISO 6722. The dielectric withstanding of the Max-M12 is 1,000V. All versions of the connector are IP67 or above, making them dust and water proof, resistant to high pressure and high temperature wash downs.  In addition to this, the connector will meet 240 hours of salt spray.

The connectors have been designed for use in heavy equipment, rail mass transit, mining, and process control as well as in applications that require high speed data transmission. This field installable and repairable connector is a standalone system that does not need to be overmolded to a cable to meet the harsh environments; however it can be if needed.

With prices starting at $7.85 per half, the Max-M12 has a delivery time of 8 weeks ARO.
